Basic Thruster Upgrades

Description
EDIT: It looks like an update may have made this mod make all thrusters vanish. Not sure what's up with that, but I can't recommend using this mod.

I quickly modded the thruster upgrade sample mod for balance and to allow for large small-ship engines. I upgraded the sample mod.

This is a proof of concept. I did not do any mesh editing, but everything works great. This runs a bit deeper than expected, since it sets up the scaffolding for multiple tiers of upgrade blocks that have different thrust/energy cost ratios without requiring more C#.

If you have a thruster you made, and you want to have upgrades, let me know. Otherwise, I'll work on reactor upgrades.

kinda peeved the old version vanished from steam, i really needed it to make my small construction ship move with a full load, all i had was a number and an error listing it as missing, and this version seems to kill all my other blocks not so much a crash just i cant build anything anymore... now im either gonna have to go bak to adding more thrusters or find another mod ¬.¬

Let me know if you publish.

Thank you for the link. I hadn't run into your series before so I'll be going through that now and hope it fills in the blanks I've got. I just watched a couple episodes and it looks promissing. To be honest I've never been able to get my own models into a game before so it would be awsome to finally do so. It will probably still be a long while before I have a mod worth publishing even if I do figure this out.

@Raz I won't stay it's good, but that's what my series covers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmBjdYMMyCw&index=4&list=PLW2i42bgplOm93PoJdKgq3LhKII_jMYb7

Unfortunatly that isn't me. I've made only a few mods myself for personal use and started the same way you did. I can't seem to find any good step by step tutorials for making models in blender and exporting for space engineers. They seem to have a precise method and little explanition for how to do it for a newbe. If I ever manage to get that far I'll let you know. Good luck with this mod though. It would be nice to have modules for all the thrusters.

@Raz Sounds good, but this mod is depressingly basic. If I was going to go into it again, I would want to work with someone that's creating a good engine visual.

I have had the same problem with disapearing thrusters but noticed it only happened when I had more than one thruster module mod active. None of the mods were compatable with each other and I know you probably just based you mod off of Keens so I had made a comment to thier mod so They could look into it. They have since made fixes to several bugs they found, possibly including the incompatability issue between the thruster module mods. You should go look at thier updated files to see what changes they made that might help fix the disapearing thrusters.

As far as directx I haven't seen model compatability issues only texture ones but they have updated that in the thier mod as well if you decide to look into it.

Listen, I really don't think this can be repaired. The meshes and textures were all copied from old DX9-only vanilla parts. I'm pretty sure it's because that setup and those materials no longer exist. My guess is that they have the same names, and a difference in how they are instantiated is causing a crash.

I can create a new version, but doing it with archaic vanilla engine models is really not worthwhile, especially since I'm sure new vanilla engines will be released in the next few weeks.

If someone that can create cooler engine models and effects wants to work with me, I'd be happy to create the upgrade system. But working to try and duplicate vanilla engine parts just so they can break again sounds like a waste of time.

I copied the "new" script into discussions and just tested it and the script is NOT the reason why it's not working anymore. Thrusters are vanishing and can't be placed anymore. The bug must be somewhere else. Maybe compare all your files to the original ones. Maybe you'll find the cause then.
