As getting any quality out of it is dificult. It is more for athsetics than it is for use as a proper viewer. A better 360 viewer is immediatly available simply by launching the shortcut.
For cube maps, I would need to be able to swap uvs on the fly as well. If that is even possible. If it is then this would also be the solution for video vs photo uv maps. Worth a google or two and a talk with AAcade's developer.
Compiling a new screen just for cube maps would be trivial. Sith will be implementing a cube screenshot and sharing feature so that will probably happen anyway.
Another idea ... what happens if you use a skybox texture on the sphere. Can you swap skybox textures on the fly?
