d4_palace_01 is one of the maps featured in the Half-Life 2 Beta that takes place during the original storyline. It was meant to take place right after the "Weather Control" portion of the game where Gordon Freeman and Alyx would hitch and a ride on a C130 aeroplane from the Arctic and make their way back to City 17, however they were shot down and they crashed into a Skyscraper.

The objective is to climb down the skyscraper and make your way past the hordes of Combine Soldiers who are trying to hunt you down. The map will end once you reach an elevator which will take you down to the surface floor. There are supplies and ammunition scattered around the map that you can pick up to fend off the Combine Soldiers.

HGrunt has restored the map by fixing many of the broken models and textures allowing the map to be played all the way through. Several lighting enhancements made been made compared to the original map found in the Leak.

It's recommended that you play d4_streetwar_01 after completing this map.
