@SeelingCat I think part of having Timor as a separate CN is to do with the cultural diferences, but I concede the point. As well as for Pakistan.

My main reasoning for the Raj, although it didn't happen historically I think it's plausible if they had not focused on the Americas as heavily to have a united nation there across the different regions. Something similar with being able to unite Canada in the Divided Colonies would be nice, in some of the timeline it makes sense to be able to unite some of the provinces. (Sorry for addressing ideas for DC in this thread but they're similar thoughts.)

I guess the trade companies are fit for purpose mechanics wise when it comes to the Chinese colonies.

And I hadn't thought of the fact that you won't get the same interactions, good point. It's a shame for Africa, I definitely thought there was potential there. Is the limit to the CNs hardcoded then?

(cont.) I'm not sure about including the trading posts however, as those are basically represented by trading companies well enough as it is and could quickly get out of control in terms of number. Taiwan's a potential though I suppose, as Formosa.

It's easy enough to make countries into vassals/PUs, it's just that they won't act like colonies like normal ones and you can't do the normal sorts of interactions that you can with the other ones and they don't have the same Liberty Desire mechanics, etc. I will keep experimenting with this though.

Africa's most likely a no though. I've looked into doing it before and the provinces are just too sparse and its impossible without having vague sort of divisions and it looks really wonky. Middle East is possible, but I'm wary for two reasons: the game eventually runs out of colonial nations, and countries whose capital is in a colonial region don't spawn colonies themselves (plus I added those new Trade Company regions haha)

@Atlantispy - Timor's a hard case because the Portuguese didn't really have any colonies in the region with which it might have been governed with, but I think that if Portugal had had more territory in the area, Timor wouldn't have been governed separately; just like the Dutch did.

As for Singapore, unfortunately there's not actually a province for Singapore; and up until I believe the 20th century it was just part of British Malaya.

Pakistan doesn't really makes sense as a formable in the game's time period (it was invented in 1933) and I think Afghanistan is already a country in the game though. I like the Raj idea, but then again the Raj was made up of all the provinces that are represented here as separate colonial areas, so I'm wondering if that almost defeats the purpose...

Vietnam would be the union of Cochinchina, Tonkin and Annam; while Indochina would be those plus Cambodia and Laos. (cont.)

@SeelingCat It'd probably be historical for the Dutch, but Timor is quite different culturally. Also Singapore should be its own thing separate from the rest of the Malay peninsula, historically they were separate. I think all of those formables sound right, as well as Afghanistan, Pakistan. Though Vietname was the same area as Indochina, what are you defining them differently with? A Raj tag or something incorporating India, Burma, Pakistan, Afghanistan would be interesting too. What do you think of a couple of Chinese ones to administrate like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, there were various other trading posts in China.

Maybe having something like a tag that comes under a personal union and a different accepted culture and religion depending on who forms it?

Would you consider doing colonial region mods like this and Divided colonies for Africa and the Middle East? I genuinely really enjoy your mods and would love to see different colonial nations in those areas.
SeelingCat  [author] 15 Jan, 2017 @ 1:26pm
@Atlantispy - The only issue is that the game kind of doesn't like having real tags be colonies. It's something I've been meaning to test out more, but so far it has some bugs.

@Atlantispy: Looking at how the Dutch East Indies was governed administratively, it looks like it would be historical to split it into Java, Sumatra, Borneo and the rest of the Eastern islsnds (the Groote Oost) and then expand New Guinea to cover the whole island. As for formables, I think an East Indies/Indonesia, Indochina, Vietnam, Burma and India might make sense. Possibly also some smaller ones within India too?

@SeelingCat I see what you mean, I don't know why Paradox doesn't allowed for trade companies to be an integrated mechanic with colonial nations but oh well. Any thoughts on Decisions to create larger nations by uniting lands crossing multiple colonial regions like uniting Indian colonies to create one nation for example?

Also I'd love if you could split Indonesia up into the constituent islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, Moluccas and New Guinea as well as Timor. Indonesia as a colonial nation didn't really exist, it was merged much later on.

@Atlantispy - Mostly in India/Indochina, but also in the Philippines and South Africa. These regions when using both mods will technically be both colonial regions and trade company regions, but the game can only display one at a time since they're on the same mapmode (it'll show the color of either the trade company or the colonial region, but it usually shows the name of both in most cases). However, in terms of gameplay, the colonial region overrides the trade company region and it should play as normal.

@SeelingCat That's really cool you got it fixed so quickly, cheers. When you say a visual overlap, where is that overlap? I use almost all of your mods on my playthroughs.
SeelingCat  [author] 14 Jan, 2017 @ 11:26pm
@Atlantispy - Should be fixed now. Note for all: there will still be a visual overlap when using this mod alongside Divided Colonies. I tried my darnedest to see if there was a way to prevent it but it doesn't look like it's possible.
