Shortly after the full release of the Ares-class Light Destroyer, VSF engineers noticed that, despite its immense firepower, the Ares sometimes failed defensively when faced with multiple opponents. The VSF Heavy Machines department decided that a larger and much more durable vessel was needed for large-scale front-line combat. Thus, the Anubis-class Heavy Destroyer was created to take and give more punishment, and also to fill a more defensive position.
