Description
"So, all I need to do is mount this on a wall and it should disrupt nearby radio chatter? Splendid! One problem, however, I can't seem to find a switch that activates it."

The Wiretap, a knife that really wasn't much of a knife, and quite a bit more an oversight. Perhaps the weight of 6 items back to back took its toll, or maybe the idea wasn't really that solid to begin with. Either way, the previous iteration was pretty much terrible. Dissecting it now, I had a very hard time figuring out how to rework this guy. It still baffles me that I could come up with something so complex, yet so poorly thought out.

The biggest flaw with the previous version of the Wiretap was its clunky non-intuitive nature. A quick glance at it pretty much tells nothing about its function, or even which slot it is supposed to fill. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to say the previous version was a Spy knife, considering how obtuse the design was. While the original idea was supposed to be something of a "home-made" knife, it comes across more as a blunt instrument with various parts forced into its design.

I'll say this now, working on Spy knives SUCKS. I chewed through 3 different knife designs and 4 separate Spy rigs before I eventually had to give up and ship it as is. The stock knife uses its own rig, separate from all the other knives. At least, I think? Maybe it was the other rig? There in lies the problem, you setup the knife to work with a particular rig, load it into the game, and then realize that's the wrong rig, or binding, or perhaps your knife is skewed wrong. It makes perfect sense why I provided animations with my other knives, as I can't seem to get them to work otherwise. I think this item is what ultimately drove me from the workshop the first time.

All right, maybe that was bit too harsh. On a positive note, this version was slimmed down and simplified significantly. So much so, it's a brand new knife. The only holdover from the original design is the coaxial attachment on the hilt, and the "scrambler" concept, worked into the body of the knife as a "radio oscillator".

Finally, I decided to remove the stats on this guy. I like the scrambling idea that the Wiretap introduces, but not enough to tack it on this item again. If you want to see the previous stats, visit the stat thread link.
