Bakersfield

Description
Escape the high cost of living in coastal California and build the city of your dreams in the scenic San Joaquin Valley!

Stunningly beautiful Bakersfield, California is located by the mouth of the (once) mighty Kern River. The city is an agricultural powerhouse as well as a major producer of petroleum and refined gasoline.

This map includes all of Bakersfield's railways and intercity highways (CA-99 and CA-58), all realistically positioned and connected. A stub for the Westside Parkway out to I-5 is also included. Of course, in reality, this section is not expected to be constructed for many decades (although the route depicted on the map is the actual one that the City is considering). I just didn't feel right not having an external connection to the west.

The terrain is based on elevation data and should be reasonably accurate, though I have taken some liberties with the Kern River, which still does not flow very well (not that it does in real life).

Note that the two railways extending to the south and to the west are low-traffic branch lines in real life and therefore do not have outside connections in-game.

@trinancrat do you do requests for other sjv towns?

Born and raised in Bako CA. Been in maintenance profession for 15 years and know every inch of this town above and below ground. One hand is giving a thumbs up while the other hand is picking my jaw up off the floor, esp after viewing the map with the first person camera mod....

ROFL. We Bakersfield Californians have been saying for 30 years that it doesnt feel right having a connection to the west. Thanks for including the W Parkway....:steamhappy: Come to mention it, you know in CS that long extention road of misc industrial near power plants that you build, and somehow becomes a major thruway with the worst 2 lane traffic problems? yeah thats Rosedale hwy. And then you got to spend 2.6M c$ to build the most complex windy freeway tiptoe dezone thru a hardcore established city/district to remedy the issue, and it takes 20 game years to do it? Thats the WS parkway.:steamhappy:

I was surprised to see a bakersfield on this game, but yet again, they're probably every city in the US here, so, I guess it's time to build by hometown from scratch.

Okay, I misunderstood. I'm one of the few native's left or so it feels like when I talk to someone they're always from somewhere else and they have the same complaints, too much traffic, too much meth and the air sux. If they had stayed where they belonged I could still go cross town in less than 30 minutes, stupid transplants. Anyway, it's a good map and I can actually build my neighborhood on the Eastside.

@MFC-03 I could have, but I was running out of rail connections. I decided that the low-traffic SJVR branches to the south and west (the Sunset Railway and Buttonwillow Branch, respectively) didn't need them. The UP and BNSF lines all have connections.

Need to change the rail settings and add the outside connections. In real life Bakersfield is the only way east for the Southern SJ valley. Rail traffic is shared by UP and BNSF east and on seperate lines north. At least you have water in the river, like you said, it's been dry for almost two years from Hart Park west.

And putting a Little Rock map into Cali won't work, Bakersfield doesn't have that many trailer parks.

Thanks for making this map!:happypirate:

You put too much work into this. All it would take to make a Bakersfield map is moving a Little Rock map to California.
