A race of beings formed from nannites that have become self-aware:


The Scathian race was formed when a nannite from a long extinct civilization became self-aware after drifting in space for thousands of years. It found an uninhabited world and quickly made trillions of copies of itself to form the being known as Ur-Lord Scath.

Scath then started making self-aware versions of himself that had their own free will and interests but still working for the betterment of the Scathian race.

More pragmatic than most non-organic life forms, the Scathians can endure the company of organics and are known to be culturally aware. Some Scathians are able to make Art, Architecture and music that are popular with many of the different species of the galaxy.

They are also excellent ship builders and scientists but have not quite the temperament for double talk of the diplomatic nature and tend to avoid it.

Consisting of trillions of nannites, a Scathian is less agile than most races and are sub-par in ground combat but this also enables then to sustain and repair damage better than most other races. In space they are ferocious combatants whose ships are known to bristle with weaponry and defenses.
They are more designed for defending what they have and not so much as attacking distant planets.

While accepting of other races Scathians seek to expand their empire and will attack weaker races if it fits their designs.
