Iron Fence from Soldyne optional but recommended! Try to place this on flat ground in case you have the fence though or the iron fence can look funny.

I had a try at making a good at-grade interchange for expressway-to-arterial transition and settled on this criss-crossing design with hopefully not too much but just enough storage space for traffic. (Too much would increase delay in reaching the other intersection and we don't want that if there is some green left)

I very much recommend using a mod or something to synchronize the two signals to get a very cheap but effective interchange. Don't expect it to do miracles though.
