(just a bit of extra info) most real space type vehicals that have been made so far like the shuttles use every inch they can for the cargo (the hubble only had 1/8 inch extra space to each side when it was launched)
i was thinking that by trying to get as close to the walls of the docking area it would leave less space for the ship to gain momentum before hitting anything else and that alone would reduce possible damages to itself and other things nearby.
they wont go through small conveyor ports or tubes (unless you access them directly)
What large items are you referring to?
maybe if it was made 2 blocks wider then the connector could sit in the center with 1 medium container close to the front center then have 1 to each side of that and have 3 conveyors at the rear so the connector is on the back (this also would allow for future expansion of cargo on both sides of the connector or even for an attachment item to be built so it can hold extra cargo for you then return to the ship to reload while you keep working)
the reason for relocating the connector to the bottom is because then you can use the landing gear to help hold it down inside a carrier
(could you do another version where the connector is on the back or bottom (bottom may be easier)?)
i may end up wanting to see about using this with my big ship (and another with grinders instead) as part of my story i am writing. if i do then i'll ask you when the time comes.
