Hello everyone! This mod has been updated!

Please also check out my new mods for Warhammer 3.

Hi guys,

Here's a mod designed to improve the Langobard roster. This isn't technically a roster expansion (though it does add some units) it is more a series of small tweaks. I made this for my own use while playing as the Langobards and will likely make one for each of my campaigns.

This mod does several small things, and here they are!

  • Fixes Young Wolves graphical bug. Previously the VMD's hair would clip through it's wolfskin, this was because the wrong wolfskin model was used, it has been replaced.
  • Fixes Langobard scale armour graphical bug. The scale armour used for some Langobard units had some serious clipping issues as the chainmail undershirt would poke through the scale cuirass due to the fact that the wrong chainmail was used in the VMD. Replaced and fixed!
  • Adds Rapid Advance ability to Horse Hewers and Horse Slayers to make them better able to chase enemy cavalry.

The mod also comes with some changes to the higher end of the Langobard roster. For me the roster became congested, a lot of elite units were unlocked at the same time and crossed-purposes. This can be seen in the Noble Germanic Swordsmen and Godansmen. In the vanilla game the Noble Germanic Swordsmen have worse stats than the Godansmen while also being more expensive and requiring two turns to recruit. I've made the following changes to the roster:

  • Noble Germanic Swordsmen now only take one turn to recruit. They have cheaper upkeep and recruitment and have had their stats generally buffed, especially their defensive capabilites.
  • Godansmen and Godan's Chosen have had their prices increased but this has been compensated for by increasing their attack and charge and turning them into specialist shock infantry.
  • As a result of this the Langobard's elite infantry is two-tiered with Godansmen being a tier above Noble Germanic swordsmen. They also have different battlefield roles so you are rewarded for using both units. In my opinion this basically adds the Noble Germanic Swordsmen to the roster as there was no reason to use them before.

This mod also completely revamps the Langobard clubmen chain. The Langobard Clubmen and Scaled Clubmen are the mid-game staple of the Langobard roster, for the bulk of the campaign they will be your best units and the main component of your armies. It is for this reason that they bother me, they carry wooden weapons into battle. Wooden weapons! How can units armed with a chunk of timber be your staple unit?! I have chosen insteads to represent them as Macemen:

  • Langobard Clubmen, Scaled Clubmen and the Redoubtable Chiefain have had their VMDs (skins) edited so that they now carry metal maces instead of wooden clubs.
  • They have also been reskinned to show more variation in their appearence. Those units now have more varieties of armour, helmets and cloaks.
  • These three units have also had their unit cards edited so that they carry maces.
  • New weapon sets have been made and include a mace-club stat hybrid and an elite mace-club stat hybrid. Maces and clubs have different stats in the game, I have mixed those stats so that the unit's fighting strength will reflect their equipment while avoiding changing their battlefield role.
  • Lastly, the Langobard Clubmen and Scaled Clubmen have been renamed to Langobard Macemen and Scaled Macemen to complete the change.

This mod also adds two new units to the Langobard roster. Early in the game the Germanic Brigands are upgraded to a cavalry unit, leaving the roster without foot javelinmen. I like javelinmen and think that they are useful and really should be in any roster. New units include:

  • Langobard Skirmishers - Foot Javelinmen, decent melee stats. Recruited in the Forge lvl 2 Lightly armoured and armed with clubs as secondary weapons. They also have a custom unit card.
  • Langobard Elite Skirmishers - Foot Javelinmen, good melee stats. Upgrade of Langobard Skirmishers with Elite Military Class Technology. Moderately armoured and armed with clubs as secondary weapons. Also have a custom unit card.

So that's the full list of changes! I need to start a new campaign now and have no idea which faction I should pick, I would love your suggestions for a fun campaign. I will also likely make a mod for that faction so keep that in mind when you suggest them.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the mod. Leave a comment and don't forget to rate :)

Thanks!

- Sebidee

Love this mod! Wish there was one for all the Barbarian Kingdoms. I'm struggling with the Burgundians right now. BTW is there a way to increase the garrison size for select kingdoms? The Burgundian garrisons are too small.
