Description
The Walking Dead hordes have invaded Skyrim!
It's up to you to make the roads safe to travel, or laugh as travelers are surrounded and overwhelmed, if you like! Skyrim's Walking Dead is another Skyrim Encounters and Themes mod to make gameplay more horrifyingly fun! If you like this mod, would like to see it enhanced, or would like to see more like it, please consider rating it. If you don't want to subscribe now, you may add it as a favorite to make it easier to find later.

❖ What's Changed
The mod changes each mudcrab, fox, snow fox and rabbit into 1 - 18 walking dead. The number you encounter depends on your level. At level one, you'll meet 1 for each encounter. At level 60 or higher, you'll meet up to 18. The "Walkers" are draugr with bloody faces and hands. They don't use weapons but are no pushovers. They're leveled and have the unarmed attacks of werewolves. This mod does NOT change any draugr you encounter in dungeons and such remain the same. For more information, see Gameplay with the Walking Dead, below.

❖ Disable Whenever You Want
The mod is completely safe. No changes are permanent. Disable it at any time and the Walking Dead hordes turn back into little mudcrabs, harmless foxes and cute bunnies.

WALKING DEAD YOU'LL ENCOUNTER

So the rumor--you judge whether it's true--is draugr are leaving the crypts, maybe to escape the rule of the Dragon Priests, or because the someone has unleashed them. Nobody knows. But as they spend time away from the crypts, they become less like undead warriors and more like animals. Maybe their brains are rotting in the sun?

One thing is certain: These Walking Dead--or "Walkers"--are out for blood! They'll surround and kill anything alive they can get their hands on. This explains why their faces, beards, hair, hands, clothes and feet are stained with the blood of their victims. They carry the loot of normal draugr, but no weapons. After killing them, you can cut open their stomachs and loot what they recently ate--anything from dog meat to human flesh and hearts.

The Walkers are leveled, so they have more health, do more damage and move faster as you level up. Leveled encounters:

Player's Level | # of Walkers* | % Speed Reduction | Base Unarmed Damage | Special Attacks
1-6 | 1-2 Walkers | 75-60% slower | 20 | None
7-12 | 1-4 Walkers | 75-45% slower | 20-23 | None
13-18 | 1-6 Walkers | 75-45% slower | 20-23 | None
19-24 | 1-8 Walkers | 75-45% slower | 20-23 | None
25-30 | 1-10 Walkers | 60-30% slower | 23-30 | None
31-36 | 1-12 Walkers | 60-30% slower | 23-30 | None
37-42 | 1-14 Walkers | 60-30% slower | 23-30 | None
43-48 | 1-16 Walkers | 45-30% slower | 30 | None
49-54 | 1-18 Walkers | 45-30% slower | 30 | None
45-57 | 2-18 Walkers | 45-30% slower | 30 | None
55-60 | 3-18 Walkers | 45-15% slower | 30-40 | Unrelenting Force Shout
61+ | 4-18 Walkers | 30-15% slower | 40 | Unrelenting Force Shout

* The number per each encounter. So if at a location you would normally see two rabbits and a fox, at level 12, you would run into as many as 9 walking dead.

SURVIVING THE WALKING DEAD

✓ Stay Alert, Stay Alive!
One Walker shouldn't be too much to handle, even for a low-level character. They move up to 75% slower, so when you meet a few, or a horde of a few dozen, one way to stay alive is to keep moving. Since they move at different speeds, they'll spread out as they chase you, forming something like a line. This should make it easier to take them on one at a time, maybe with a bow or spells. But be careful to look around you as you are moving. A new horde could surprise you and cut off your way of escape! Also be wary of the encountering large hordes. At level 30, three rabbits and a fox might produce four Walkers, or 20 of them! So an area that was easy to clear awhile ago might prove more of a challenge when revisited.

✓ Get by with a Little Help from Your Friends
Citizens of Skyrim will also help you fight them--hunters will fire arrows, Thalmor cast spells, Imperials and Stormcloaks will enter the fray. So heading toward friendlies will help you survive the night or day. A word of caution: Townsfolk will attack Walkers on site, but many won't live through the encounter, so it's best to lead a horde away from towns, unless you don't care if anyone survives there! For fun, have a horde of follow you into a bandit or Forsworn camp to help you clear it out.

✓ How About a Barbeque?
Like other draugr, Walking Dead are susceptible to fire. So fire spells and weapons with fire enchantments are helpful. For some real fun, set a group on fire using the Dawnbreaker[www.uesp.net] sword, which you may obtain during one of the Daedric quests. When the sword kills a Walker, it sometimes sets other walkers on fire, disintegrates them, or makes some of them flee in fear.

✓ Don't Get Cocky, Kid!
Some effort was made to keep them challenging, by having the Walking Dead level up with you, increasing their walking speed and base damage as they do, and even giving higher-level Walkers shouts. Then there is always the increased number. At level 60 and later you'll encounter nearly a dozen times more of them then you did at level 1. However, if you would like to see stronger Walkers or more of them, let me know. Leave a comment saying what level you were and what you'd like to see done to make it more challenging.

one zombie at a time so far. random number generator is not working, perhaps. will level up a few more times and see if the hoards start to appear.

Really good mod, thoroughly enjoy fighting these hordes. However, my adopted daughter now has a child-sized draugr called Cotton as a pet.

I appreciate your hard work on this mod. I think it's a great concept but it crashes my game quite often. Also, I was expecting hordes of zombies and the most I ever saw was 4, and I am level 42.
