AirLightArmor

Description
tired for ship is way to heavy? hard to design exterior armor because of the ship weight?
no worrie we are proud to present out new lighter armor plate for aircraft use.

we have full set of armor with lighter weight then normal.

------
10% weight of normal light armor
80% Strength of normal light armor

Whenever i try to make something from, say, Trailmakers or scrap mechanic, the basic light armor ends up adding too much weight and momentum to any moving parts, making anything that moves need to move at a snails pace.

And Since i want it to be functional as well, i am usually stuck with rotors at 1 rpm, pistons as low as 0.1 speed at max strength, and similar balancing results.

My question is about a mostly weightless block, that has durability as well, but the best method i can think of with how you said the game calculates weight, is.... maybe an iron ore or single piece of gravel, and just crank the % resist up to 95% or something (depending on how much hp a single piece of gravel is worth)

awesome idea, and almost exactly what i was looking for!

please add the half block

@Maegil Dude shut the hell up. It's a game. Things can be realistic or things can be way out there so stop with the physics lesson.

I agree that this is rather unbalanced.
A quick search* revealed that the density of mild steel is 7.85 g/cm3, while aluminium is 2.70 g/cm3 (34% the steel's density); as for their impact strenght, steel is at 50J while aluminium at 24J (48%).

In all, to be realistic you could use these values directly (which is good enough for non-heavy-duty civilian use), reduce the weight in 70% for the same toughness of light armor by doubling the total material volume (which can be absorved by the LA's hollow structure), or something in between. You could also try an aluminium heavy armor blocks suite with only one third of the weight but half the actual resistance.

*Quick and dirty, the actual values can vary quite a bit according to the alloys' grades.

This armor mod is going to be perfect for atmospheric aircraft since using normal armor makes almost anything halfway decent too heavy. Thanks for adding this, as it might actually help to save my AV-14 and AV-22 builds along with future UNSC aircraft attempts :)

I do have a suggestion/request though, could you perhaps include an edgeless version of this to compliment the armor without edges mods out there?

@yajiedesign Thank you!

Would you consider matching strength and weight a bit more? By including this block I would almost make light armor obsolete, as the strength reduction is only minimal, but the weight reduction is great. I could swap a single layer of light armor, for two layers of AirLightArmor, giving me 160% the strength, but still saving 80% on weight. As air-resistance is not implemented in SE, the additional bulk does not matter.

@Skloomax this is new blocks.

This is useful...
Like for reducing the weight of the new VC Sky Fortress.
Does this mod replace blocks, modify them, or does it create a new block?
