Description
7/15/25 - Begun some additional work on the mod finally, after all this time. Looking into what I can do to make this a bit more interesting as well.

There are plenty of ideas on the drawing board to help get this in a good place but I would probably have to find a way to design scripts as separate addons instead of including here.

Brief Warning - I've been working on weapon slot issues and a strange bleed-over effect. Sorry for constant updating. This should be the final script-related change for this mutation, and all other changes will now take place in the separated addon.

Known Issue - Crashes when playing multiplayer on L4D1 survivor campaigns. Will be checking that as well.

This is, in fact, one of the most brutal mutations I could cook up, with the help of friends and soon to include the community. Good luck, and remember to rate and/or give feedback!

Important Notice!
All weapon slots have been changed! This is how it works:
- Pistols/Magnum/Shotguns/SMGs - Primaries
- All Rifles and Snipers - Secondaries
- Melee - Misc. Slot, ONLY accessible by Mouse Scroll, usually upward from primary
- Upgrade packs take the slot of pain pills
- Tier 3 weapons are pickups only; they cannot be stored on the player

To keep a level of difficulty but also prevent an annoying medkit-vanishing bug, I had to implement a workaround and give the medkits back their slot, but pain pills and adrenaline also use the medkit slot. Basically, anything medical now goes there, and the medkit bug is circumvented.
The idea was to have the medkit go into the throwables slot because I wanted the primary source of healing, to be swappable with the crowd-clearers/gatherer. This would have made it so that you would have to choose what you needed more, to heal, or to set up and/or knock down a crowd, and then come back to get your healing done.


Best challenge for this mode is to play on Expert, and use the menu key to see your health! Default key is Tab.
Read below for full details of the mode.


What has been done:

- An attempt at allowing Achievements has been done. [Current status - Unknown, but likely doesn't work]

- Multiplayer works if you set up a local server. ( if you don't know how then I recommend using Hamachi, disable special infected skins as host, use console and do sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0, sv_consistency 0, net_start to be safe. Do this every time you launch L4D2.)

- Melee has its own slot and weapons aside from shotguns, SMGs and pistols become secondaries -- they don't receive ammo. [Current Status - Works]

- Defib and Grenade launcher are only pick-ups -- switching weapons would drop them. [Current Status - Works, but want to include M60 at some point]

- Ammo for every weapon has been edited in a very drastic way. Try to conserve ammo. [Current status - Works]

- Melee is supposed to be more common than guns for a fighting chance. [Current status - Seems to be working, but I may adjust it later for even more spawning]

- HUD and glows are disabled in every possible way. [Current status - Works]

- The finale is a bit larger; zombies are slower and pack a bigger punch, but it is currently only outfitted for Expert. Working on that. They also mob a bit more. [Current status - Finale acts normally, not based on current settings but is significantly larger, it seems]

- Zombies are slow, so pipe bombs are currently replaced with molotovs. [Current status - Works]

- Tank is a lot weaker and somewhat slower but packs the punch he's meant to have through physique; so does the Witch.
[Current status - Tank's not as slow as wanted and seems to die to fire after 2 minutes but it is possible that lighting him on fire may be extending his health which should be 2500, and his punch can one-hit a max health person.. Too strong? Naaaah; Witch works as intended]

- Rescue closets should be officially removed. [Current Status - Works]

- First Aid heals less; pain pills require 50 Health to use. (Makes sense, because you'd only use them if you were hurt that badly.) [Current status - Works]

- Hunters are the only special infected and have more health; possibly do a tad more damage. [Current Status - Works]

- There are no AI survivors. [Current status - works]

- Attempt at enabling a fog. [Current status - Active but strange]

- When down, survivors should be able to crawl. [Current Status - Works.. Silly me put a random 'a' in the code and left it the first time writing it in]

- Attempt at rare ammo. [Current Status - Been seeing more than I should be, testing it out to get it in an area I'd want it to be.]


Community Ideas (Old)
These ideas will come into affect either while we get what we want done, or after, it all depends. Not all ideas will work from the mutation alone, just to note.

They'll be posted into what is done when it's done, and all users who suggest the idea first will get featured!

- Mashing a button to get Hunters off! (Check below for an addon that does just that) - This user suggested it!

Hey, cool video! My friends and I appreciate that a lot.
I'd love to do more for this mod but I haven't had much time to figure out how to edit it again.

The crosshair thing, I personally always found it cool to not have a crosshair but also harder. If you ever feel like it's too much, I believe cycling the commands in console for crosshair will put it back, or adjusting the hud settings with console as well (which may just put all of the hud back up.) Otherwise, I find it to be a nice challenge since the game doesn't have ADS.

listen. yes, i am talking to you comment viewer who is looking to download this mod. i know what you're thinking. "oh, this mod isn't going to be that bad. i am pretty damn good at l4d." but no, shut the fuck up. you're a fucking idiot for thinking you can beat this easily. this is some actually brutal shit. i've stopped hunters in midair, i've solo'd tanks on expert, i've speedrun campaigns on lmor in 10 minutes, and i still can't beat no mercy on EASY with this enabled. i just fucking can't. so, mr.imgoodatthisgame, you better get a few hundred more hours before you even TRY this shit.

Apologies for the wait in response, I don't have internet of my own.

But as for the mashing of button to get Hunters off, that's something I could try to learn to implement.
I like the amount of Hunters for now, as it is meant to be played in Mulitplayer and on Expert for the best experience. (It's meant to be super challenging, without the use of most of the special infected.)

Although, I have been unable to test any multiplayer features or even confirm
that multiplayer works between my friends and I.

I appreciate Captain Cronch's response on it though. May I ask how you managed to get it to work?? I would like to resume working on this mutation when I get the chance.
