Tau Sagitarii Shipyards : AV-6 Badger

Description
The AV-6 Badger is a small fully armored personel transport, for atmospheric planetary use only.
Its a fully heavy armor ship that relies on battery power with some reactors for emergency on-the-field recharge.
Due to some problems with rotors in the prototype version, the complex landing gear and passenger ramp door were removed from the final version.

Stats:

Mass - 223 tons
Crew - 2, Pilot and pilot/gunner, External main cockpit + internal cockpit inside the armored hull.
Passengers - 6
Gear - simple retractable landing gear with fixed tail wheels.
Guns - 1 Gatling turret, 1 missile turret, 4 fixed rocket launchers manual loading.
Cargo- 1 large container, 6 small containers below seats, 1 small container for accesing main cargo.
Lights- 4 Spotlights, 1 interior light, 2 cabin lights, 2 nav lights (red, green), 1 strobe beacon light, 2 landing l.
Lift power- Aprox. 150% of empty mass.
Oxygen- Oxygen generator included for not breathable atmospheres and hydrogen bottles refilling.

The control panel of the AV-6 has many g-menu directly accesible functions to minimize the need to dig on the main computer systems list.

While the ships controls may look complex and dense, only the first page has critical features needed for basic ship usage. The other pages act as a help and shortcut for less important actions.

Page 1 Main flight operations
1-Landing gear toggle
2-Fire single rocket salvo.
3-Ventral camera view----- main purpose is for landing view for precise and soft touch downs.
4-Retro engines-------- engines for slowing down. Off for cruise flight, turn On for landing or static hovering.
5-Manouver engines------engines for dampening turns. Includes lateral / forward thrust and small lift thrust.
6-Main hover engines-----the main hover and lift capacity. Can be used on its own for flight for energy economy.
7-Spotlights
8-Decoy tray 1
9-Decoy tray 2------this are wing mounted decoy trays that are activated and released as counter measures. If droped going slow and low it can survive impact and keep atracting fire while on the ground. Use tactically.

Page 2 Secondary flight operations
1-Periscope Left
2-Periscope Right
3-Periscope camera view
4-Periscope up/down-----------The AV-6 has a periscope with 360º vision used as main camera view and for scouting while under the cover of terrain features such as hills or cliffs. TIPS- the closer to the ground you hide the better view can be achieved. Use retros and manouver engines for stable hover.
5-Camera Down View
6-Camera Left View
7-Camera Right View
8-Cabin (passenger) lights
9-Cabin Camera View

Page 3 onboard systems operations 1/2
1-Conector ON/OFF
2-Conector lock/unlock
3-Gear parking brakes-----------useful for knowing current brake status and operate.
4-conector throw ON/OFF------- to eject items. Separated from other conector toggles for security.
5-Batterys ON/OFF----------switch mainpower on/off.
6-Turrets On/Off------------switch off turrets when not in active mission for safety reasons.
7-Recharers on/off---------Turn on or off reactors to recharge batterys or for some extra power.
8-Beacon on/off-------------Beacon used as S.O.S signal. Can be used for other signaling at comander will.
9-Broadcast on/off----------Turns on/off antena broadcasting.

Page 4 onboard systems operations 2/2

1-Projector------------Turns on or off a projection of the ship to conduct repairs.
2-Autopilot------------Turns on or off the onboard autopilot. GPS waypoints need to be introduced beforehand.
3-Gyro Lock----------Turns on/off Gyros locking so control inputs are heavily weakened. Useful for cruise flight and not having to take care of accidental control inputs.
4-Interior light---------turns on/off the interior light inside the hull, for the inside cockpit.
5-Nav lights---------- turns on/off Nav lights and nav beacon.

TIPS for safe flight:

-The AV-6 is mainly used as an helicopter. Pitch down to accelerate and bank to the sides to change direction or skid.

-the manouver engines has very limited dampening effect and mainly for hover stability. Rely on hover engines for quick manouvers.

-turn off retros and slightly pitch down for cruising.

-You dont need to land vertically. You can land with forward speed if terrain is flat enough. Try not to go faster than 80m/s

-Land SOFTLY. Althoug the landing gear can absorb good amounts of stress the tail wheels cant. Try to land with main gears first and let the tail touch down last.

-When landing you can sit down the plane by stages. Turn off main hover engines and ship will sit on its landing gear. Manouver engines have small lift power so not all the ship weight rests on the gear. This allows for landing on not so flat terrain, useful for quick touch and go.
For totally landing the plane turn manouver engines off after the hover engines.

-The large Cargo Container IS NOT to be used as a heavy duty cargo transport. The ship will not lift a full cargo of heavy items like steel plates or thruster components. Use the container for bulky useful cargo for the ships role like missiles, ammo or oxygen/hydrogen bottles.

-Use the periscope to sneak peek over hills. Its better to get it shot off instead of your cockpit. Raise the periscope and switch to its camera, then ascend until you can see what you are looking for and not further. There isnt much room before your ship can be visible too.

-Use decoy trays with some altitude margin so it attracts fire longer. Decoys go On only when the tray is droped.

-Inside the cabin theres a small container at the right side of the inside cockpit. Use it to access the ships conveyor systems to store or take items from main cargo, and to access the oxygen generator to refill bottles. The under belly conector can be used for the same purposes from the outside of the ship.

Tau Sagitarii hopes you enjoy the use of this ship.
