A stealth reconnaissance variant of the Dragonclaw, the IX1-52-R was also upgraded alongside the Dragonclaw II in 2101. Exceptionally fast forward acceleration is the hallmark of the ship and Blackdragon pilots need a superb understanding of ‘Newtonian style’ flying to take full advantage of their ship.

Primarily the IX1-52-R is designed as a mid-range scout with multiple antenna. The more modern variant also comes equipped with a laser antenna for convert communications. Equipped with 2 Gatling guns controlled by the sole pilot, the IX1-52-R is capable of limited self-defense or surprise attacks but lacks the ammo capacity for more than a brief engagement. Like their Interceptor counterparts, Blackdragons can launch from any TVSI 4/2 Compatible Hangar. A relatively low ventral thrust does not allow for close proximity to planetary bodies above 0.2G, though theoretically the superb forward thrust would allow for vertical escape of most non-atmospheric bodies.
