Bardufoss Blues, 1994

Description
Bardufoss Blues
14 February, 1994
Approaching noon on day two of a new global war. As commander of Allied Forces North, you are re-grouping surviving units and bringing in new reinforcements as fast as you can get them. The past 12 hours has been relatively quiet. Once the Soviet airdrop on Banak was complete, the CAP up at Bardufoss was only encountering 15-20 Soviet sorties an hour. Jamming continues to be heavy and very effective, you can only assume that Soviet ELINT is picking up most transmissions. There has been very heavy transport and single engine traffic into Banak and Kirk
Your available aircraft are severely depleted, your pilots are tired, your ground crews are exhausted, and your stock of AAW missiles is draining rapidly. You grudgingly consider a further withdraw of forces to the South. The situation on land is stable, Soviet ground forces have linked up with the airborne forces at Banak but have not proceeded much beyond that. The Maritime situation is improving marginally, the Norwegian Navy has put to sea and STANAVFORLANT is moving to assist.
The Norwegian parliament was hit by a truck bomb yesterday, both the Prime Minister and the King were killed. The Minister of Foreign Affairs is now the head of state; the government; however, is in chaos. Decisions and guidance are non existent. Orders and coordination is coming from SHAPE in Belgium and the NATO Command structure is working (much to everyone's surprise), but is focused on the Central front. Reinforcements are also coming – but slowly.
This scenario is playable by NATO only:
You must inflict damage and slow Soviet progress. You may well have to abandon northern bases but you need to prevent the Soviet amphibious force from reaching Trondheim.
Designer’s Notes:
This is the fifth scenario of a 20-24 scenario campaign and is linked to scenario 5.5 Trondheim Express. See the Northern Fury background document for further insight on the background and happenings so far. The key nuggets
· Cold War continued, no thaw in relations. Germany still divided, WP still alive and doing very well.
· The 3rd World war started yesterday. The Warsaw Pact forces led by the Soviet Union attacked NATO and other nations on a global scale. The main blow was in Western Europe but fighting also erupted in the Pacific, Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa. India has declared a separate war with Pakistan. North Korea attacked Southwards in an apparently independent move. Finally Argentina is threatening the Falklands again (but has not attacked).
In earlier scenarios to this battle set, you found that the defences in North Norway have collapsed; the Soviet Northern Fleet has put to sea; the island of Jan Mayan is now in Soviet hands; and Soviet submarines are inflicting damage along the US Eastern seaboard.

You should turn 'special messages' ON.

You have some significant ammunition issues, for the full experience you should play with 'Unlimited ammunition OFF'

Please respect the initial ready times for aircraft.

Points are allotted or deducted for losses, and the Soviet amphibious force reaching it's unloading zone.
