USS Midway vs. Cuba: The War That Never Was, 1989

Description
When WW3 breaks out in the early 1990s, it spreads everywhere, quickly. The Soviet Union and all of its allies begin to battle aganist NATO and its allies. One exception is Cuba, issuing an open letter of neutriality to everyone. However, what NATO does not know is that Cuba is planning on entering the war. The Soviet Union has instructed them to enter the war just as the USA is sending the first of their heavy divisions towards Europe. In the book The War That Never Was, Cuba sees the sucesses enjoyed by NATO countries/allies everywhere and decides to make their neutrality permanent. What if this never happened? What if Cuba did enter the war at this percarious moment? All that the US has standing between an entire nation's armed forces and the lifeline to Europe is the USS Midway, fitted with a scratch SAG and reserve F/A-18 squadrons.. Can they hold the line? Or will Cuba deliver the final, killing blow, and seal the fate of Europe?

Great Scenario, I managed a flawless victory on the 2nd run.

One thing I'd love to see is a falkland war scenario with a relaistic british naval task force(s) but when Argentina putting some of their good aircraft on the falklands to defend it instead of trying to reach from the mainland.

Tried that mission multiple times and I can't get even close to victory. Cuban air assets are purely overrunning you by size. The SAMs of your ships seem almost totally ineffective. I put all planes on CAP duty and still i run out of CAP ready planes after the first MIG23 attacks... had no fun in it.

Hey, great work on the scenario! Got a triumph although the midway was damaged and not operational by the end of the mission, but the Cuban's took immense losses.

My midway was damaged and my planes were unable to land on it - That doesn't make much sense as they are right next to the US and have many choices of runways to land on.

It would be nice to create a US mainland air base to land on.

Scenario updated with Skjold's comments. If anyone else has suggested changes, you should post them here and now, before I upload the new version of the scenario to the community page as well.

I must admit that Im not halfway through (Those pesky MIGs keep comin'), but this is one of the most enjoyable scenarios I've so far played.
It it very managable while still being difficult with the economics of using your assets.
All in all an excellent carrier ops introduction!

P.s Them Gladiators, hot damn.

I finally got around to playing this a couple days ago, and played again today, this is a great scenario, i had alot of fun holding back those Cuban Mig-23s, 21s and 29s. Its also a good scenario to learn carrier ops with

@Excroat3, I will try today and tell you, anyway is a good mission. You can place an RC-135 over the paralell 24 (IRL they flew several times a month along the paralell, sometimes a TR-1), from west to east and back for 8 hours a day scanning the cuban air defense radars, in those years the main west air defense command center was about SW of Havana near a town called El Platano

@Rush59, I didn't add any more Mig-29s because the scenario is difficult enough already, and adding more Mig-29s would tip the scales too far. I'm pretty sure that the Mig-23's have it in their doctrine to go low for their attacks, maybe its just easier to detect low level targets in Command than it is IRL.

Is a good mission but need a few changes, the first is, that Cuba in 1990 had 12 x MIG-29A and 2 x MIG-29UB, they were fitted with R-27R and R-73 missiles. Another thing is that Cuban air attack doctrine is to fly very close to the sea (really close), to aviod detection of ground radars (On March 20, 1991, Cuban Major Orestes Lorenzo Pérez defected in his MiG-23BN to Naval Air Station Key West, Florida on a training mission of the Cuban Air Force, there was a mess is US because the plane was not detected until he call for radio for landing). There was a Cuban retaliation plan in case of been attacked by US, and was to bomb the nuclear plant of Turkey Point in Florida, and many others tricks of smalls countries.
