It's larger than you can see, only that it's hiding a little Easter Egg, showing the full map would reveal it.

Keep the convesion gel and the width of the room the same. If you portal on the conversion gel at its highest and furthest point from you on the wall (and keep doing it for each new paint splat formed) it will make a sort of descending staircase pattern on the walls. What I would do is lower the platform with the exit and cube button so that you easily walk onto the platform at the end of the gel staircase pattern. Then add toxic between the platforms. I would also (if you haven't already) place the companion cube dropper directly over the faithplate that sends you back to the room with the conversion gel. Set the dropper to auto-respawn cube, but not auto-drop first cube (you can keep the first one where it is). That way if the cube is destroyed it will be sent right back to the player.

Actually if you don't mind, I may have a suggestion for the conversion gel bit if you want to hear it.

The conversion gel bit was a little odd, but pretty good. Easy, but good.
