Nakajima B5N2 "Kate"

Weapon Mapping:

Originally my first and worst mod, I have made some serious change to bring the B5N2 “Kate” up to par with my other creations (see change notes 4/27/2016). The recommended load out for historical accuracy is that the right weapon slot be machine guns, and the bottom slot be used for the guided bomb to simulate a torpedo. Additionally, I have mapped the special slot to be on top of the gunner’s position, so if the aft mounted gun is loaded it will be as if the gunner is shooting the emery planes.

History:

The B5N Kate was the standard carrier torpedo bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) for much of World War II. When the B5N1 first saw combat in the Sino-Japanese War, it was discovered that the bomber had several weaknesses in defending it’s crew and fuel tank. Therefore the plane was given the more powerful Sakae Model 11, 14-cylinder twin-row radial engine, in hopes that it would be able to outrun fighters. It’s armament consisted of 1 7.7 mm machine gun mounted in the rear for defense, and would occasionally carry two 7.7 machineguns in the wings as well. The payload was one of the following depending on its mission: 1 × 800 kg torpedo, 1x 800kg bomb, 2 × 250 kg bombs or 6 × 132 kg bombs.
