Dezhou is known as the south entrance to Beijing and a transportation center in Northern China. It was called De County in feudal ages. It has long been an important port along Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canel. Its industry thrives since 19th century due to the construction of railroad for coal transportaion and military use.
