making custom vids [intro, loading, menu]
By k8
got some requests for a guide on this due to this custom vid I threw on the workshop,
so here it is.
This may or may not work for other games that use these .bik files as intro or movies as well, note that not all games are as easy going as kf2 (it plays any .bik vid you throw in there as long as you name it correctly).

It isn't all that complicated, you'll only need a few things:
  1. RAD video tools, small program that can be grabbed here[www.radgametools.com]
  2. A video you'd like to have as loading, intro, menu. Preferably in .wmv format but we'll get to that later.

Some information
A bit of general information before we start:
  • I've had no succes with keeping the sound working when converting from files other than .wmv
check the next section for conversion
  • videos do get cut in loading screens, meaning even if you have a long video looping it'll cut and shouldn't increase your load time. This however doesn't seem to be the case for menu/intro videos
  • I highly recommend deleting the other intro files if you plan to get a custom intro, meaning delete LogoTripwire.bik and LogoUE3.bik from %\steamapps\common\killingfloor2\KFGame\Movies\
  • even if you don't want a custom intro, deleting all intro files will allow you to boot up the game without having to skip through 3 intros, I highly advice you to do it
  • Long/large videos do work but might cause some problems with loading (mainly longer load times for some), this seems to be combination of video size, the pc it's running on and the encoding and your results might differ. Just keep it in mind when trying to put your 10 minute video as menubg
Converting videos to .wmv
The easiest and least effort way is to go to this link[video.online-convert.com]
and do as follows

note that I'm only converting my video because some formats (like .webm) don't work with RAD video tools. Other formats like mp4 do work but the audio doesn't get detected.

To avoid any problems, just convert whatever vid you had in mind to .wmv and everything should be okay.
Converting files to .bik
Okay so you have your video.wmv ready, open up RAD video tools you installed earlier
(due to my theming it'll look a bit different on your machine, but you should be able to make it all out)
  • navigate to your file and do as follows

  • do as follows on the next screen

  • wait for it to be done, it shouldn't have trouble with the video or the audio

  • just to make sure, check it after it's done to see if the video is indeed working

Replacing the files
So we now have our replacement video,
we can use this for whatever purpose, menu, loading screens, intro (keep in mind what I mentioned in the information at beginning when doing this)

  • first rename your .bik file based on what you want to use it for:

    Intro: LogoTripwire.bik | LogoUE3.bik | LogoGA.bik
    Menu: MenuBG.bik
    Loading: Loading_001.bik | Loading_002.bik | Loading_003.bik

  • Now that you have your properly named .bik file(s), copy it/them to
    %\steamapps\common\killingfloor2\KFGame\Movies\
  • replace? yes!
  • enjoy,
try messing around with vids with/without sound to make something fun out of your kf2

Menu music is tied to music volume I'm afraid, kinda the reason I uploaded a muted version of my menu bg in workshop as well.
You should be able to delete the menu music from files, seeing as all music/sounds are seperate files as well, but I've yet to find the file which plays in the menu. If I find a way to get rid of just menu music I'll update the guide.
