Yeah, we did enjoy the map and the puzzle. :-)
But I personally got years of experience in mapping and design is important
to the gameplay of the map - which is why I also focus on map-design whenever
I play community maps. The vanilla PeTI is very limited though - I know that. ^^
The button that changes the funnel to reverse is obvious enough, I agree.
The pedestal button however could use some signage or antlines.
Alright, we figured out about holding the cube as the intended part.
I know about the mechanic - but it is indeed not very obvious.
(at least it is easy to execute - so no problems there) :-)
Yep, with "this design" it would not look nice either way.
Altough the other way around it would not fall into focus right after entering the map. ^^
(first impression is important ^^)
I can fully understand that you wanted to draft out the map, that
you had in your head and that it can be difficult to build a map,
that does not have problems (like the sphere-through-grating-thingy ^^).
I know that map-design is something you have to learn and improve on over month or
maybe even years. My own first few maps looked quite terrible and I did so many bad
design things... It also is a matter of personal taste and going around the Editors own
limitations.
I guess we all just have to keep on building maps and improve on them,
whenever we something that can be made better.
The puzzle itself is already a good one - figure out the design and it is a top map. :-)
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear you [kind of] enjoyed the map! :D
-The effects of both unsigned buttons are noticable straight away - there aren't too many items around, though I would agree that pedestal button also respawning the cube is less obvious.
-Actually holding the cube was intended from the very start, even though it does not appear as such and can be done differently.
-Grating covers the white floor as well as water underneath, so it wouldn't look too nice either way with this design :)
-Placement helpers would also prevent at least one unintended solution, but as of the making of this map, I was specifically making straight PeTI tests for the purpose of earning hipster points
-As said in the description, I saw the chamber in a dream and so was trying to make it as close as possible to the original.. However, my dream Portal2 doesn't let you grab the sphere through the grating, so I had to improvise. There were several tries and, trust me, this one is quiet decent looking :P
-I hope you didn't play my other maps, if this design lacks.. I was actually quiet proud of how this one turned out :D
Both my puzzles and designs need A LOT of work, but even with the amount of chambers I have witnessed I just can't do any better than copying my subconscious haha :3
Hello, we just played your map and here is some feedback:
(I was thinking out loud and wrote it down - don't mind the wording...)
Lighting/Brightness is good - well done.
Why did you hide the signage beneath the lightstrips?
• did you disable the signage and why?
• might be a bit confusing at first look
Is it intended that one player can press both wall-mounted buttons?
• holding the sphere/cube and pressing it against the 2nd button)
• which allows the other player to get the cube through the fizzler
• and later the sphere can be transported through
• move the buttons away from each other, if you want to prevent that
Why is the grate (floor) 1 block higher than needed?
• looks a bit strange
• design is a bit messy in general
antlines look weird (not your fault)
• think about using antline magnets and routers (beemod)
portal_placement_helper would have been cool (beemod)
• these helpers will center your portals in the middle of a 1 block surface
• which will lead to easier and better gameplay (in my opinion)
sphere spawn room looks a bit weird (out of place)
• you could try a 3x3 room in the back wall
• just try different designs and make it look a bit nicer
---
We really enjoyed the puzzle but did not like the map layout/design.
The standard PTI Editor has some limitations, you should try out beemod.
I hope you can use this feedback to improve the map.
You got 2 thumps up from us for the puzzle.
