Phantasy Star II Modernization

Description
Mod created by fedorajoe. Will remove upon request of original author.

To quote the ROMhacking.net page, "the purpose of this hack is to mitigate many of the worse flaws of Phantasy Star II in order to create an overall play experience more similar to that of Phantasy Star IV. This means decreasing the amount of level and money grinding, increasing the number of references to other games in the series, some translation improvement, bug correction, and more."

@Atiqa This is the same version I posted back in 2016.

I haven't bothered to update it because, honestly, you are better off playing the latest version of this hack on an emulator like BlastEm or Genesis Plus GX instead. The one used in SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis Classics is both less accurate and does not support SRAM when playing modded games.

This says it was posted in 2016, but the readme in the link is for a 2019 release. Is this the old version or the more recent one on romhacking.net?

Would it be possible to run the hacked rom directly on another emulator, like Retroarch?
Maybe that would solve the save game issue so many people seem to have with the Workshop version?

use the quick save option in game...thats how i had to save and load on phantasy star 4 with a mod

@Zarvera I'd say something to them on social media. There's precedence of that influencing Sega before (e.g. convincing them to get more Yakuza games out there), so no harm in trying.

Well damn, that's even worse. How do we bring it up and do they actually care, i wonder

@Zarvera @Tyler Durden It's an issue with the way SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics loads patches, unfortunately. While it seems to make save files on users' hard drives, it doesn't seem to load them. It's something that'd have to be addressed in a patch from Sega. :steamsad:

Meh, saves are not working.
Unfortunate.

This mod would be perfect if it increased movement speed too. I love the increase of EXP.

However, the game cannot save at all. I know I am running the mod since the 3 fire ant battle gives 10 exp instead of the regular 5. Whenever I click to save it makes the 'bip' sound, but still says empty on all the slots. Saving the 'regular' way in-game does absolutely nothing. Upon rebooting the game all saves are lost.

Oh well, I'll probably start over with your mod when I do feel like starting it up again; it's still faster then restarting, doubly so if I avoid bugs and have a more interesting experience. I just finished Phantasy Star 4 this week again (Nostalgia; first RPG I ever played), so a mod that makes it a little closer to that experience is always nice.
