The Quintessential British Name List

Description
British Humans
Forum Thread[forum.paradoxplaza.com]

Alternatively British anything. Blorgs, Foxes, Smugslugs, Platypi,... Go crazy.

Included:
Ships: 2558 generic, 570 corvettes, 1176 destroyers, 287 cruisers, 219+1 battleships, 16 titans, 1 colossus, 170 colony ships, 170 construction ships, 46+1 science ships, 72 transports
Stations: 78 defence platforms/ion cannons (shared names)
Fleets: 2
Armies: thousands of armies, based on current and historical units
Planets: 689 generic based on British towns, counties, and council areas, 25 generic based on current and former overseas territories, 33 generic with a general sci-fi feel, 5 for gaia worlds based on historical names for parts of the British Isles
Names: over 400 male and 350 female first names, over 400 second names, 29 male regnal first names, 17 female regnal first names, knighted leaders and leaders from the peerage

Due to popular demand both Victory and Boaty McBoatface have been included, but you will have to uncomment their entries if you want them to appear ingame.
To do so just remove the leading # from their lines. Ctrl + F should help you find them with ease.
You need to go to <Steam root folder>\steamapps\workshop\content\281990\681545718 (this might differ if you have games/workshop content installed to other places than the folder Steam is installed to) and open the .zip file found there. Edit the .txt file found within and uncomment Boaty McBoatface and/or Victory.

Made possible by contributions both small and large from: Beer4TheBeerGod, BrokenSky, chaostk, ecololuc, EmperorZelos, Ifreann, Kordishal, mbpoblet, TheBeautifulVoid, Tim_Ward, Adm. Yanxa, and most likely others I forgot to mention. Shame on me.

Known issues: sequential names currently block out random names for armies, workarounds are in place.

The fact that this is one of the very first mods as far as "Most Recent" is concerned makes me smile.

That's true. I'll need to get the mod files on this computer and will take a look at fixing that.

Thank you for the reminder!

@swiftsvre

You're probably missing a namelist for the new ship added in federations
swiftsvre  [author] 29 Mar, 2020 @ 1:53pm
They may not be British in origin, but they're certainly names that exist in the UK and/or the Commonwealth. The list has been generated with the couple hundred most common names in the UK as the basis and Ahmed does make that list.

Since when are "Arjun" and "Ahmed" British?
Mattie AH 1 May, 2019 @ 3:06pm
ah ok thanks

It should be compatible and function just fine, but I'll take a look and make sure that nothing funny is going on in the next couple days.

is this up to date

can you make an irish name list?
swiftsvre  [author] 21 Nov, 2018 @ 12:21am
There are other lists with names only from the British Isles. Alternatively you're free to edit the files (an explanation of how to do that is in the description above) and just remove the categories containing the names with a different origin.

When I made this name list I decided that it would be varied and that's something I'm sticking to.
