The Zeta Reticulans (previously known by the derogatory name "The Greys") , were an ancient race who were a menace to the galaxy, and a thorn in Humanity's side for many centuries. Records exist of them visiting Earth as far back as classic antiquity, where they were thought of as Gods. Some of our ancient ancestors even built temples in their honor (such as the Pyramids at Giza).

Although benign at first, their visits to our home planet quickly became malicious. Cattle mutilations, abductions, crop circles... these were just some of their doings, but their legacy would last through the ages.

They regularly performed genetic, scientific, and sexual experiments and manipulations on not only Humans, but numerous other races throughout the galaxy.

To this day, no one knows why they did what that they did, what their goals were, or what their genetic experiments have done to our race in the long run.

They were defeated in the "War of the 7 Stars" when the A.F.S.A.G.E. (Alliance of Free Species Against Genetic Experimentation), led by the Terran Coalition beat them back. One by one, they were pushed out of every sector of space, until they had no where left to go but their homeworld. Their home planet was surrounded and bombarded from orbit, into oblivion. Although their civilization was wiped out from the face of the galaxy, their legacy remains and their technology can still be seen througout many systems. A lot of their ships were captured and reverse-engineered.

These probes were sometimes visible on Earth during the 20th century, causing quite a stir . Fighter pilots sent to investigate them refered to the probes as "Foo fighters" (though technically, they were not fighters as they had no weaponry). When approached or challanged, they would quickly outmanuever and outrun their attackers / persuers, and disappear.
