Description
Forests are always a challenge to show in only two dimensions. The layers of the undergrowth and trees often flatten into an uninteresting texture. That's one of the reasons photographers often rely on shafts of sunlight, mist and other atmospherics to give volume and depth to a forest scene. With VR it's possible to show a scene that in other media wouldn't look half as interesting since the layers are still there. I did it all in shades of white to emphasize the forms of the objects and to create something that is almost a winter scene.

This work is a mixture of several things I've been experimenting with. The rocks are photometry, but with no color maps. I wanted to show off the textures and shapes you can get using only normal maps and flat colors (or texture maps made from ambient occlusion maps). The plants are sculpted in a few programs and I hope add an unusual air to the place.
