Hjerim Library

Description
Beneath the snow-battered city of Windhelm lies a Nordic ruin ravaged by the sands of time. While most of the ruin is too collapsed and decrepit to explore, the Dragonborn discovers that directly beneath his Windhelm home lies a large chamber. Eager to take advantage of the space, the Dragonborn renovates the area to have a place he can finally keep all his books in one place...

Adds a library beneath Hjerim with the aesthetics of a Nordic ruin. Access is gained via a trapdoor placed in Hjerim's living room, on the left from the front door next to the wall. (The doors in the Library are purely aesthetic; they do not lead anywhere.) There are 16 bookshelves in total, each of which can hold 16 books per shelf, making for 768 books in total. There is also a chest near the entrance, and a bench with a lantern on the other side of the central pillar. At the end of each row of shelves lies a nordic shelf with a few books to add to your collection, including several more valuable tomes.

I made this mod because I was frustrated with the lack of bookshelving in the game for my mage, who loves to collect books from all reaches. Hjerim is the best of the houses, with 12 bookshelves, but even if one doesn't keep duplicates, if you're collecting you'll soon find yourself without space for them all, and the shelves are widely spread besides. I wanted a place where I could keep all my books in one place.

KNOWN ISSUES:

I've populated the library with the full complement of 768 books, and I can attest to the fact that framerate does take a bit of a drop (obviously) with that many books in one place. Also, Some of the smaller books tend to lean a bit forward or back as they tilt to the side- I don't know why that is, and these bookshelves were such a headache to get running that I'm honestly afraid to mess with it. It's a small problem and the shelves work perfectly. That's all that should matter.

Anyway, hope you enjoy. Feedback is welcome, as this is my first "project", and you only help me by leaving constructive criticism and suggestions.

Cheers,
Eniliad

Wrong mod name. It is Refurbished Hjerim. Thanks, now I need to go gather all my books!

I like this mod. Lots of room for books and no manequins! I don't understand why everyone wants mannequins. I only have one minor issue with it. The trapdoor is partially under a small wardrobe. This is probably from another mod I have installed called Hjerim Refinished. I still have access though so I can live with it.

http://youtu.be/fhV8_RxkEmo is the YouTube address for the video of Hjerim showing this mod. It is short and without sound, but will give you an idea of some of the other things that have been added to Hjerim.

I have a movie on my profile that shows a walk-through of this mod with the shelves 90% full using the unlimited bookshelves mod.

I might also mention that there are other trap doors in Hjerim from other house mods that have a transportation module included. My Hjerim has four trap doors total. Moving any of them around probably will whack one or more of the others.

Almost every house or house expansion mod that had good working bookshelves was affected by the Dawnguard DLC which apparrently changed something to do with both mannequins and bookshelves. Many people use the Unlimited Bookshelves mod to completely fill the shelves. After the DLC the max number of books you could put on a shelf was reduced by one or two depending on the type of bookcase. If the shelf was already full it tended to cause lots of problems. So on top of the finicky and quirky nature of bookshelves that make them hard to build, there was a major complication.

Kudos to Eniliad for a great mod that fared better than almost all others when the change happened - great job on building. Thumbs up mate.

Moving the trap door into the hidden closet would conflict with the Hjerim Expansion mod which adds another library to the house and a crafting area. I use both that mod and this one to store books and both are full.

Oh, and as for placing it behind the fake door: I certainly could put it there, but it's difficult to find a spot that doesn't mess with something already there (the map editor shows all items that can ever be in that room - the bloody altar, the shelves with soul gems, etc are all present at once). The living room seemed the most innocuous, out-of-the-way place to put it so I wouldn't disturb anything.

Thanks for all the favorites, subcribes, etc! It's nice to see people using and liking the mod. :) Velken: The problem with bookshelves is that they're very finicky; hell, you can't even have them facing 90 degrees to the side from the orientation they're currently at without something breaking (usually, the ability to select the bookshelf to add/remove books). I didn't copy a bookshelf because editing an existing one is nearly as much hassle as building a new one from scratch. Initially, my reasoning was that I wanted to learn how to make them myself, but having seen just what a headache Bethesda made a simple bookshelf, the former reasoning seems much better by this point.

Why not use a copy to fix the problem and leave the original intact if you're afraid of breaking it and also I think the trap door would be a lot nicer behind the hidden closest room.
