More Realistic American Vehicles

Description
‘Battlezone 98 Redux Mod Competition’
A texture overhaul of almost every single american vehicle, cockpit, and base structure. It also changes the look of the pilots weapons as well as the space suits. Even the lunar lander got a bit of a make over. I didn't care for all of the bright glowy spots on most of the models, so I toned them way down or removed them entirely. Nothing against the original makers, but I just didn't think they made any sense.

I wanted to go for a more realistic look, similar to the Space Race Era tech. Therefore you will see lots of solar panels, gold foil, American emblems, etc. I also got rid of the korean war era 'star in circle' emblem. It just didn't seem to fit the era. The pilot suits look much better in my opinion, but be aware, they do present a challenge in identifying pilots visually...Not difficult though after you get the hang of it. I changed the muzzle of the pilots rifles slightly, as seen in the screenshot.

The cockpits also got a MAJOR overhaul. Before, all cockpits, had a single texture that honestly didn't look too convincing. I created some customized textures for 4 or 5 of the main vehicles that are composites of actual NASA spacecraft/aircraft photos. (not copyrighted). The others use a single photographic composite texture that still looks better, but not customized for the cockpits geometry. Not perfect, but really, how much time do you spend with your head down in the cockpit anyway? To make a custom cockpit texture is extremely time consuming and tedious. If I were able to simply change the UV map of the mesh, it would take only a few minutes, but for some reason, after exportation, the model no longer works, so the only solution is to create separate textures for each vehicle cockpit. I will of course, eventually create updates to improve the cockpits of the remaining vehicles.

One of the main things that I wanted to do, but was unable to, was to make the interior view of the cockpits match the exterior view of the ships. I could do this by altering the models, but this seems to be limitation of the engine or modding tools available, or maybe just my inexperience with this game. Whenever I try, the models do not work. :(

P.S. Someone please follow my lead and do the same for the russian vehicles. I'd love to see a photo realistic soviet cockpit with the typical sky blue panels.

If you ever wanted to pick this up again, we have modding tools available that support seamless model import/export so you could tweak the UVs or make new ones

really like the models, the cockpits have the right idea but too much is untextured. Its really noticable at my high resolution atleast.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I know it has been a very long time and I haven't gotten to do any more work on this. Real life stuff came up and I just can't afford to spend as much time modding anymore. I hope no one felt like I was ignoring them.
