Description
*** 2017-Nov-25 UPDATE: Updated for 0.6, including research ***
*** 2017-Feb-04 UPDATE: Survival building, new low-resolution models for distant viewing, gray marble columns, better mass balance, improved collision models ***

Hi all! Welcome to my ground-up re-creation of my old Marble Columns mod.

This mod provides 11 individual items:

-- Small marble pedestal
-- Tall marble pedestal
-- White marble column, base, and capital pieces
-- Red marble column, base, and capital pieces
-- Gray marble column, base, and capital pieces

The small (2x2x2) and tall (2x2x5) marble pedestals are the perfect place to show off your prized items and to add a little elegance to your formal spaces.

The modular column parts let you create beautiful rows of columns, at any height you wish. They come in traditional white marble, a deep red "painted" marble effect (popular in Roman times -- see Pompeii), and a gray marble that blends well with the game's stock stone wall coloring

This mod is now 100% SURVIVAL READY. It comes with its own Research tree (Fine Masonry). Once learned, you create the marble columns on a crafting table using 1 large stone, 3 wooden sticks, and 1 metal part (to represent the chisels & blades that you would consume carving fine masonry like this).

I have added a great deal of mass and integrity to these blocks now. They are heavy and will damage buildings and floors if they fall from too high. And they are sturdy, meaning they can withstand much more of an attack than the flimsy ones before.

Destruction mechanics aren't working yet. Once Keen fixes the Destruction Tool for modders, I'll add them in.

*** KEY NOTE: These are small-block items. The upside of that is you can place them anywhere. The downside is that they will NOT act as structural support for large-block walls placed above them. You must factor in actual large-block wall pieces when you build with these columns. They are for decoration, not for adding structure to a building. ***

I hope you enjoy!

If someone wants to do it, they're welcome to! ME's last update 1 1/2 years ago made the game nearly unplayable on my computer. (There is a bug with certain processors that kept threading from working right.) By now all the old files & modding software are gone from my computer so I won't be able to add anything else. (I also heard that ME's very, very, very last update a few months ago on "release" managed to break still more mods, which again I can't fix anymore.)

I'm kind of sad, that Keen stopped development on ME (for now), but isn't this the perfect moment to get this mod into a final working version?

Could be. I hope you're right!

I kinda doubt Keen had "abandoned" the game, most likely they're just concentrating on a new title or updating SE.

Hi Jacob. It's on the list of things I want to update and do! I'm waiting to get some sign at all that Keen has not fully abandoned the game, before putting still more time of my own into it.

I really wish you'd update this - columns are essencial for the medieval period to exist!

Thanks for replying STORI3D, I can see the problem. Good luck!

Hi Gallium, you're not alone! I have been wanting a bigger version too. But to make them so big, they should be structural -- meaning they should be large blocks. And that's when it gets tricky. Because there's no one good place on a grid to "place" each column. If you place them in the center of the grid, or on the edge, or straddling the edge, they look good in some cases & stupid in others! I've been trying to think of a smooth way to make the transitions possible. In the end, I *could* just make them bigger small-blocks, but I don't like that choice either! I'll keep thinking on it.

Hi there, I really like this mod and have been using it heaps!
The only thing is that the columns aren't really big enough for a temple, so it would be cool if you could create a larger set of columns with a 1m diameter. It would also be awesome if you could create a Corinthian order for the same, which should have 1m high capitals(that's assuming I've read my Virtruvius correctly!).
I understand this is probably tricky to do, I just thought I would suggest it as a cool addition to an already cool mod!
