*** UPDATE May 9, 2017 *** The big 0.5 update has broken the old mechanics in this mod. It will not work any more going forward. I will keep this mod on the Workshop for those who used in in 0.4 builds and before. In order to keep using it, you will have to download and play one of the earlier legacy branches of the game on Steam. ***

Hi all.

This mod is a growing collection of "surprises" you can install in your castles. There are two now: A trap door & a false stone wall.

The trap door looks just like a normal floor, but a switch located 2 blocks away activates it and drops it out immediately. Anything standing on it will plummet to the depths below. Here's a little Twitter clip of it in action: https://twitter.com/STORI3D_PAST/status/781169146121846784

Right now this works best in a hallway. I hope to make a second version with a subtle switch close to the ground, good for use in open spaces. It won't be easy to use if you're running. But if you're just hanging out and someone walks in, you can give them a big surprise.

It comes in 4 directions, so you can match your floor pattern. (Because of how Keen does this mechanism, you can't see the floor part when you're setting it in place. Annoying, but the workaround is to set it up off to the side until you know you've got the right one.) The mechanics work really well. The hitbox is not great. It's oversized so it's "hittable" but can still be tricky to find. Spend some time practicing your run-by routine so you can know just where you need to point to be able to throw the switch. I'll keep working on it on my end.

The second mod is a false stone wall. It looks & feels just like a regular stone wall block. But it rotates on its center to open up secret passages/rooms behind it. I have hidden the hitbox in the floor so it won't be such a giveaway. Here's a video of how the wall looks and works: https://twitter.com/STORI3D_PAST/status/782284386746105856

I also added a regular stone wall you can use to either side of the false stone wall, that -won't- automatically generate those vertical stone pillars. Otherwise your false wall would be completely given away by the pillars being there.

I hope to add spiked booby-traps, two-way mirrors, and other cool effects to give your castles an extra layer of mystery and danger.

Hi @STORI3D, since the game is now released out of beta, will we ever see an update of this wonderful mod? It seems the game won't be updated any more at least for a very long time if not never...please!!!

Hey Titanius. I want to, but I want to see what some of the next Medieval Engineers main updates add to or change about the game. The last time I made these, it was a boatload of work, and then all of it was made redundant or broken with game changes. So I want to wait until blocks & walls & everything are closer to their final form before I try it again.

Yes, please please, a least just an update for the false wall would make my day!! I used that thing everywhere for hidden castle passages!! Maybe throw it Deepflame's way, I know he loves these sorts of things!!

Thanks reloader, I had a hunch this wouldn't work. It also uses the -extremely- old door system from before Planets. I'm going to have to make this a LEGACY mod too. I'll start over with a fresh design for some of these trap doors & false walls, it'll be a lot better.
