Another example of an annoying feature: right after taking out the turrets, you can place a portal on the ceiling of the room baricaded by red lasers and so get into the room. However, once inside, a light bridge prevents you from going in further, the lasers (and goo) stop you from walking out and the only place you can put portals in that room is on the ceiling. And you can't jump through the ceiling...
I think when you're designing levels you need to sit back, and work out the key points you want to include, and where possible guide the player to the next step. Bonus points for re-using areas. In the world of portal, less is usually more.
