Service Radius Adjuster

Description
Enables you to adjust the effect strength and radius of service buildings in your cities.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀[discord.gg][github.com]

Long description
Ever wondered why your industry does not level up to level 3 before you put five Cargo Train Terminals in close proximity around it?
Ever wondered why you have to put down all service buildings every third block in order to keep your land value high?
Are you unhappy that if you game the system, you will get a very unrealistic city in result?

With this mod you can see and adjust the effect strength and range of all service buildings just the way you want.
You can use this mod as a cheat to make this game even easier, use it to make it harder or try to make it as what you feel is realistic.

What?
All ingame and custom healthcare, police, fire, education, public transport and cargo transport buildings, parks, unique buildings and monuments with such an effect, like the medical center can be tweaked.

How?
After you enabled the mod ingame, you have to load a map once to fill your profile with all items you have in the game.
Then you can either batch edit and apply a multiplier to all Accumulations and/or Radius values, or manually adjust each item in a xml file. To manually adjust it, open the file first, search for the building name you want to edit, change the accumulation and radius value to your liking, save the file and then press the apply button in game.

I know its not very convenient to edit xml files and the UI I had previously was much better from a usability standpoint. But without a UI the mod does not effect the game performance at all, which IMO is much better for your game experience.

Effect
The different effect strengths of the service buildings determine the land value. And land value together with education determines the level of your buildings for residential and commercial zones.
For non specialized industry the building level is determined directly by service strength.
There are also mods that make the values visible, like
Show It! or Extended Building Information.
If you increase the effect ranges, more land will be covered by your service buildings. The strength of the effect will increase, increasing your land value and your building levels in the process.
If you decrease the effect ranges, less land will be covered by your buildings. Your cims will potentially abandon the buildings due to a land value that is too low to support the level.
If you disable the mod, or reset the values to default, everything should be back to normal.

What not?
This mod does not change AI behaviour.
So even if you change the range of clinic, it does not mean, that the ambulance will stay inside that radius.
If you need a mod to adjust AI behaviour, check out Transfer Controller.

Caution!
With great power comes great pain. All values you change are reevaluated after a short period of time, so theoretically, you can play around with them without fear of really breaking your city. But since these values affect all default service buildings, the effect can be drastic. If you overdo it, you could be responsible for a mass exodus that could cripple your city for years to come.
No matter what values you chose, the simulation will balance out somewhere in the end. But maybe you won't like the result. And it could take some time.

Also the mod does not manage different values for your different cities yet. If you want to try it out in one city, disable the mod if you load another.

So be cautious, and always save first.

@squishzilla probably your default application for xml is Edge. you can change to default application for xml to notepad or something to be able to edit the file.

@darfracer125
no, you don't have to place it. only subbed and enabled is necessary. on every game load it will check all your assets and see and add the stuff it does not know about to the file that you can edit.

just have to ask because the instructions don't specify.
but it says i need to load a save once.
does that mean that this mod can only change the settings of buildings that have already been placed? or is that just to get the "asset list" and will it be changed for any new building i place down aswel?

because if i need to place each building first. then i have no use for this mod.

Not sure what is wrong in my settings, but when I go to open manually it opens in Edge, so I can't edit the file. Any one know how to sort it

glad it works for you :)

Just wanted to pop back in and say, this worked perfectly! I decided to manually edit the radii for education, police, fire, and healthcare. I left their strength values at default. I made modest increases ranging from 300 - 1000 on most assets as some of the workshop items were appropriate at default. This made the average for elementary schools at 1200 - 1500, high schools 1500 - 2000, universities 2000 - 3000. The rest of the services fall within these same ranges aside from major hospitals which I decided to increase to 4000 - 5000 (none of which are currently in this city.) Below I attached a link to a screen shot that shows the land value after adjustments were made. I wish I had the forethought to take a before screen shot but I don't feel like disabling the mod to get that. Just know there was a lot more blue and even nearly white sections between housing developments.

@egi

Thank you for the clarification. Thumbs simply just for the speedy reply. I think I'm going to give this a try. My network experiment has done wonders for my traffic flow. But it is playing hell on land value via service range and impact. This seems like just what I need to balance it to where it makes sense.

@Filthy Wish Dragon

It affects all service buildings you changed (the mod does not do anything by itself), also the ones from the workshop as long as they use the BuildingAIs that come with the game (most likely).

What i mean with "All Values you change are reevaluated after a short period of time." is the following:
If you set all radius values to 0 for example, after a few seconds you should see all non service buildings complaining about too low land value for example. if you wait a few minutes they should all become abandoned. if you then reset the values and let the simulation run for an hour or so ... you should be back to where you started. you can just go bankrupt in the meantime ;)

Perhaps my reading comprehension isn't a swift as I thought. What exactly do you mean by "All Values you change are reevaluated after a short period of time."

Also, you state this mod affects all default service buildings. Does it also affect service assets I am currently running?
