Description
Updated for 0.2.0 (smooth performance)

There is a FSI (long distance) version available, too.

Don't forget to peek at the Change Notes.

One of the first things I wanted to build when I got Scrap Mechanic was a bus (well, my kids love them ... :-) After a couple of models I gave up on it, though. It seemed impossible to make something on the scale I wanted that looked good and also behaved 'realistically'. I wanted 'real' suspension, 'real' doors and no cheats, quirks, glitches, and of course only the vanilla game. (OK, I did build one, but that is a hover bus :-)

Well, time has passed and I have goofed around with heavy duty trucks lately. That gave me the tools to finally build a bus, which you can see (and use) here.

Controls:

[1] - front doors
[2] - rear door
[3] - driving ights
[4] - blinker (turn signal) left
[5] - blinker (turn signal) right

(You can press [4]+[5] at the same time for hazard warning lights.)

It features only two single columns of seats to keep the proportions looking good. If you are okay with bike seats you can have double columns right now, but of course it looks stupid. Adding two more columns would mean the vehicle would have to be 4 blocks wider, and then it would also have to be longer and probably higher, and I feel the wheels might look too small.

The turn radius is extremely small for a vehicle of that size (make sure you're not to fast, though, as it will understeer).

There are some details I'm not very happy with right now:

SM misses a light 'plastic' block that is closed on all sides and has a smooth texture. (Even better: give us block models and let us choose the texture ourselves). The blocks I use for the outside have two open sides, meaning you do see the holes in some places like the rear door, for example. That's ugly. Additionally, using 'non building blocks' makes the paintjob a piece of hell. It takes bloody ages (or json editing ^_^) to color every single block individually ...

Same goes for the 45° half-block with that ugly round ... 'thing' that looks like a button or tube connector. You see them at the sides of the doors here. I don't see any other chance to have those doors open realistically and not get stuck, hough, so it's either 'ugly' or 'not at all'. (Occasionally, they do get stuck after driving, like with other large vehicles. If that happens, just leave the switch activated and drive around some more, or return to the main menu and load the game world again.)

(Fixed)The front wheels looked like they were going to come off while driving (depends on your framerate, too), but with the latest front axle version, that is no longer the case. In my testing, the axles hardly ever get wedged - it is possible, though, if you hit something at high speed. Simply put the vehicle on the lift and release it should that happen.

One thing that is missing (and might come with an update) is storage. I'll probably add hatches on the sides, and of course a second floor.

Engine hood im the rear.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome!

P.S.: There are control lights to see which door is open. Never drive with open doors - passenger safety is your responbsibility as the driver!
