Description
(Reactors & weapons loaded)

Background
The threat posed by fast attack craft -- light, inexpensive vessels carrying inordinately heavy kinetic or explosive payloads -- is one that has been long recognized by the Uranian Confederation. To counter these vessels, the U-Con relies on its destroyers and corvettes -- corvettes such as the Sava. An older design, the Sava has undergone a significant refit in an attempt to modernize it and retain its utility. Its mission remains the same as before: destroy other corvettes or smaller vessels when acting alone, and harass larger vessels in wolfpacks.

The Sava's primary loadout has not changed; it still mounts four rocket launchers, four gatling turrets, and a pair of missile turrets. However, the positioning of the weapons has been updated to make them more useful. The rocket launchers have been moved closer together to concentrate their damage in a tighter area, and the turrets have been moved to the midline as on other AAM warships, improving their coverage. The ship has also received a complement of CIWS turrets to increase its ability to intercept missiles and strike craft.

This configuration gives the Sava a fair degree of versatility when engaging targets. The turreted weapons are sufficient to destroy strike craft outright, and the agility provided by its sixteen gyroscopes allows it to engage FACs and gunships with its rocket launchers. Those launchers are also used when attacking larger vessels, a role that most Confederation corvettes are not intended to fulfill. While this is a risky maneuver, a group of Savas can inflict the same amount of damage during an attack run as a broadside from a dreadnought, and at far less cost.

The engines and powerplant have undergone the greatest change. The ship gained nearly five hundred metric tons during its refit, but its acceleration has more than tripled, allowing it to reach its maximum speed in under five seconds -- faster than a Viper interceptor. A large part of that greater mass is due to the vastly more powerful reactor grid needed to give the ship such high acceleration. The Sava also features a tactical jumpdrive, allowing it to strike at distant targets and retreat quickly. As with all U-Con ships, the drive is underpowered compared to those of most other powers; a jumpship is necessary if the vessel is to engage in strategic maneuvers within the Solar System. Although a smaller vessel, the Sava features a full medical suite, in the event that crew are injured during long patrol missions.

Unfortunately, the same qualities that make the Sava an effective vessel also make it an attractive ship for pirates. Over the years, several Savas have been either hijacked or captured outright, and have shown up in the hands of raiding groups that use the ship's speed and firepower to great effect.

Great! It's meant to. :3

Looks like mass effect.

That warning just means that my game is set to the development branch instead of the stable branch, so it's a couple versions ahead (more goodies, but more bugs). I haven't gotten any bug reports from anyone about the ship, so it should be fine.

I'm really glad you like the look! And you're right, Mass Effect ships were a big part of the look I was going for. :D

When spawning this ship the computer says: "THIS BLUEPRINT IS CREATED IN DEVOLOVMENT VERSION, THIS BLEPRINT MAY CAUSE ISSUES IN THE GAME" It there a 100% complete ship you have made? But very nice work and it looks like you have gather insperation from "mass effect games" by looking at those three engine nacells, the way those black bloks :steamhappy:is created.

That's the Kgori; 49 small cargo containers, and an interior cargo bay that's 2 blocks high, 4 wide, and 5 long. It can schlep around 2,000 metric tons to orbit -- though if you're going to land with that load, you should really gas up first. That's actually probably going to be the next one I release; I need to install the Liftoff Manager script on it, it's fantastically useful.

What're those sexy hydro transports being escorted on orbit?!

wow she's quick :D

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Don't worry about the speed though. This is very fast for Ion. The Ion Corvette that I was uploading today can only do about 15m/s/s. I'm going to have to tweak it it now! Hydrogen provides more thrust at a much lower mass, Ion just can't compete at speed. Of course fuel is much less of a concern for Ion, so I see it a a long range option. I also think Hydrogen only ships bigger than Corvette are a bit silly, so Ion remains relevant.

Glad you like it!

But see, this is supposed to be able to catch things like your Vulture -- and it can't. I even tried to make a hydrogen-powered version of the Sava just in response to the Vulture (didn't work, hull's not configured for it).

The only thing I've got that can catch the Vulture, in fact, is the new Caracal, and that, uhh ... yeah. Basically, I'd have to send a lance of four or so Caracals to reliably take out the Vulture. It even inspired me to give the Caracal a little more oomph in its loadout with a nine-gatling array replacing one rocket launcher.

Sooo, once I clear my backlog, I'm going to be sitting down with a tanker of coffee, all of your FACs and UFACs, and a notepad, and start cranking out AAM's first UFAC. XD
