Roroa Miner HV

Description
At A Glance - Smaller level 10 mining HV with front mounted drills + two harvester containers, with an open cockpit and open interior, armed with 6 minigun turrets, can mount an artillery gun on the rear roof block if need be, but no room to increase turret array without modifications. Comes pre-equipped with a boom + tree harvester. Accessed via a rear ramp door, standard internal outfit with 2 cargo, 2 harvester boxes, 4 O2/ammo 8 fuel, 2 mobile constructors, 1 fridge and O2 station, no passenger seats, but can fit 2 if need be. All explosive devices are surrounded by armour and isolated from other explosive devices, reducing risk of chain reactions. Size is 783 blocks, 148 devices, 15Wx11Hx16L

Handles fairly well, with high accelleration and in testing has proved capable at carving turns easily, while the smaller size allows for the front thruster array to push it backwards. Standard caveats apply though due to current terrain interaction issues when mining.

Construction Costs:
Iron ingots - 1620
Copper ingots - 760
Cobalt ingots - 640
Silicon ingots - 420
Time = 1hr 24min

Introducing new to our range of Hostile Environment Mining HV's, the Roroa. Named after the Great Spotted Kiwi[1], this new mining HV build from our designers at Sullivan Engineering takes the lessons learnt from the Wombat Miner and improves on it by offering a much more compact design, sacrificing only cargo space to deliver all the Wombat's excellent loadout and capabilites, while improving mining handling. As the Roroa is more than capable of pulling off the creation of tighter corners and even U shaped tunnels. However, this comes at the cost of restricting available space for turrets, meaning there are no extra turret hard points available, although the rear pad is more than capable of taking an artillery turret as a direct replacement for the minigun. Though the current installed array of minigun turrets easily chews through most threats encountered in the field, allowing miners to range freely without threats from drones.

Also new to this design is an improved cockpit window design, which while it takes up more space than that Wombat's provides an excellent field of view for the pilot.

Otherwise, the Roroa follows the design guidelines established with the Wombat and earlier Sullivan Engineering HV's. Equipped with a stretched hexagon array of drills, this allows the Roroa to carve out easily more than enough space for it to fit into and the more compact design allows for more ease at creating curved tunnels when mining. And per standard design guidelines, all explosive internal devices are nested in armour and isolated in cells to prevent chain reactions ruining your day should you be caught out by anything the array of 6 turrets can't take care of. Though with the high acceleration of this build and excellent turning rate, you'll usually out run and out manuevre most threats[2], while generous armouring allows for the Roroa to escape most scraps with only minor damage, especially if owners choose to upgrade from steel to hardened steel in the field[3].

Handling wise, the Roroa, like all new HV builds handles fairly easily due to both the new HV motors and the standard v shaped hulls we use with all our HV designs. With the only downside being the shorter design means it's ability to bridge gaps in chaotic terrain like the longer Wombat is reduced, but the large rear thruster array usually means the Roroa can fly up near vertical slopes. Thruster array has been altered though, with small thursters used on the sides to help make the Roroa more compact. And new to our HV's is the tree cutter that comes preinstalled on this HV, that allows for forests to be dealt with with out having to run trees over and doesn't affect handling, but in a pinch, the Roroa is more than capable of bowling over offending trees, vegetation and any wildlife. And due to the slight centre of balance bias, the Roroa naturally tilts upwards, further improving terrain handling.

As for internals, the Roroa meets SE's usual standards, with 8 fuel tanks and 4 O2 tanks allowing for world spanning range, and 4 ammo boxes providing plenty of ammo storage. However, there's only 2 cargo boxes due to space constraints, but due to the presence of 2 mobile constructors and 2 harvester boxes, there's still plenty of storage. While 2 generators provide enough power to run every device at full power simultaneously and one fridge can usually store more than enough food.

Access wise, to save space, the Roroa only has one rear door, provided by a shutter ramp, but otherwise pretty easy to exit/enter and it lower mounting than a conventional shutter door or manual door, helps improve pilot survivability by reducing exposure if the door is destroyed.

Costs wise the Roroa is only slightly less expensive than the Wombat, owing to it having pretty muich the same number of devices, but the more compact design is seen by our designers as making it well worth the costs, as it mines better than the Wombat.

[1]This species of kiwi is the largest extant one and will quite happily dig out burrows. Though like all kiwi's it's endangered by introduced mammal predators as while the hatchlings are pretty large, they're not as capable as the adults at fighting off rats and stoats.

[2]Warrenty void if the Roroa is taken anywhere near fortress's and similar locals.

[3]Eventually, SE will provide upgraded versions, (I is lazy) but generally upgrading will reduce acceleration and turning rates, although the current thusters and RCS's installed provide enough breathing room to upgrade to hardened steel without crippling this HV.

And that's another HV out the door, built it to see if I could improve on my earlier Wombat Miner, and while performance mining wise is definitely better, the smaller size restricts detailing, so I'm not entirely pleased with the exterior. Could have sacrificied some turret spots, but frankly, 6 miniguns is the sweet spot for quickly chewing through drones with ease.

Next HV's will be smaller, though to reduce size I'll need to reduce the device count, by dropping down to 6 fuel tanks and less ammo/O2 etc, with the smallest not having an open cockpit, though it will have shutter accessed bays.

Oh and this is the end result of the "Central Belters" testbed, turns out trying to have a tree harvester not on boom for a mining HV in this config doesn't work as the drill hitboxes get in the damn way. Also it end up as large as the Wombat, due to trying out a different rear shutter ramp door orientation. Basically instead of vertical, it was horizontal, but this doesn't work that well block budget wise unless you design around it. But from this came the cockpit window design and some detailing stuff, along with some useful data on how the front of an HV that protrudes close to the head of the drills can cause issues due to hitbox fun.

Would have been uploaded sooner too, since it was created weeks ago, but I've been having sh*t sleep for the last month, so not much energy to get stuff done sadly.

Cheers, I like adding lore to these so sometimes get rather carried away :P

Should also finish off the smaller two in this series of HV miners, since the 2nd prototype's already been bashed out in my design book.

Oh wow, and a wall of text in the description, that's all pretty cool :)
