DESF V10 2017

Description
Devbot Enterprises Super Formula V10 2017, the ultimate Open Wheel racing experience!

The car that combines extreme technology, speed, pure force and all the fun a race car can provide!
Developed to give you the most realistic simulation of a car of this type instead of just looking like one.

[devbot.enterprises]

Devbot Enterprises Super Formula V10 2017 is the ultimate formula racing car in rFactor 2, featuring latest DX11 graphics.

The V10 engine that is used by the series is not only powerful, but also reliable, given that you keep the temperatures in the correct window, with 107°C being the optimal temperature and 110°C the limit. Anything hotter than that will damage the engine, which can only be prevented by cooling the car more and keeping the revs down.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Devbot Enterprises Super Formula V10 is a series based on the 2017 rules of the world's most popular open wheel series, with some major changes to make racing more fun.

Additionally to the super-wide tyres that will be seen in the mentioned series in 2017, this car also features a 940hp V10 engine. Including the amazing sounds we know these great engines for!

But because having a bunch of identical cars racing at identical speed without much happening is really boring, this series allows refueling! So there will be wheel-to-wheel racing and strategy involved in every race.
There have been huge changes to the tyres as well. This series comes with an all new tyre manufacturer that aims to stop artificially creating "excitement" by providing degrading tyres. Instead, these tyres will roughly keep the same amount of grip at all wear, unless they're completely worn of course. This only goes for the dry compounds of course. No wet tyre in the world can possibly provide as much grip when worn as a new one would.

The cars have DRS but it is significantly less effective while also providing a more stable rear when activated.

Of course the cars are much wider than what we are used to from the past years. The design is roughly based on the first design estimations for the 2017 season cars of the fastest series in the world, which also provides more downforce from the diffuser.

There are two dry compunds. Hard and Soft. Instead of being completely different, they are actually quite similar. The soft compound works great at cold temperatures, slow tracks and a calm and clean driving style. The hard compound has slightly less grip, lasts longer (though not much longer) and has a higher temperature window. When the soft tyre overheats, it's a good idea to switch to hard compounds.

The tyres are designed for racing, not for saving them. So give it all you've got, they won't just explode after 5 laps!
This also makes it possible to do hotlapping without having to get a new set of tyres each lap just to get as much grip as possible. So you can easily do 5 hotlaps in a row and they will all only differ because of the way you drive the car. Unless the tyres overheat of course, but in that case you can use hard compounds or change your car's setup.

Due to aerodynamic changes and wider tyres, this car will be roughly 3 seconds faster than an equal car from 2016.

It was decided to use V10 engines instead of the suggested V6 Turbos, which means a lack of up to 150hp during qualifying sessions, but roughly the same amount of power during races. This means that qualifying laptimes will be much closer to race lap times.

The second release comes with 11 different teams.

This mod features much more fragile cars to simulate realistic car damage. This decision was made especially because rF2's damage multiplier can only reduce damage, but it can't actually multiply it by more than 1x.
rF2 does not feature wires in the suspensions that we know from modern open wheel racing that keep wheels attached to the car when the suspension breaks. So instead the wheels simply come off entirely.

3D Model: Me (Reusing assets from FISI 2012. Thanks ISI and S397!)
Textures: Me (some borrowed from FISI)
Sounds: Me
Physics: Me (Tyres based on João Martins' hard work. Thanks!)
Some of the included team skins were provided by Ricardo Ferreira. Many thanks for that!

Thanks to Georg/Patronic for the amazing setup that was included as the default setup with this car.

Special thanks to ISI for making FISI 2012 and S397 for being awesome, providing help whenever possible and for allowing modders to use rF2 assets!

Thanks to Traveller for his amazing rFactor Blender import/export plugin! This mod probably wouldn't exist without it.

Thanks to everyone who helped testing the beta!

TEMPLATE CAN BE FOUND HERE (PSD): http://devbot.enterprises/share/DESFV102017-TEMPLATE-V7.psd

The car was made to be mostly compatible to FISI 2012 skins. Only minor changes to the rear wing are required.

I have downloaded your template and would love to paint real teams for personal use on our server. Do I have your permission?

Brilliant mod. A must have for anyone who loves open wheelers and wants a challenging/realistic drive. You'll be on your toes all the way, as it should be!

Its been a while since trying this mod. Ever since S397 updated the tire thermal characteristics several mods have made huge improvements in the capability to drive at the edge. This one is nothing less than exceptional.

For those of us who favor the high revving V10 over hybrid power its head and shoulders above any other later vintage F1 mods. 8 gears, each with a range of gearsets, and no artificially simulated AC motor torque, on a nimble feeling chassis. Most of the hybrid mods tend to have an "SUV" feel about them.

Thanks again!

This has just become my favorite car in rf2! I obviously have no idea how a formula car of this nature would be to drive but it feels how I think it would. I also absolutely love the damage model! When you hit something with an F1 type car, you should pay the price! Thanks for such a great mod :steamhappy:
