So fun fact for you guys not in the know: Boomer is a name for a very large Kangaroo. Yeah I didn’t know that either until I was looking up stuff trying to figure out what to call this item.
But anyways every now and then you get these items you make which provide a very particular challenge and once you finish them you know you are getting better as an artist. So this helmet is very simple in appearance… But making the polygon budget was a hell of a chore… Basically we have a very strict 1400 triangle budget we are allowed on our workshop submissions, and modeling out the netting was very expensive, not to mention that in general round objects need quite a bit of polygons to make them not look blocky… Hell the old helmet “Lumbricus Lid” for the soldier, another netted helmet... Was a whopping 4900 triangles!... But that was made by Valve… And they can break their own rules. So when I managed to make this helmet at EXACTLY 1400 triangles… Yeah I was pretty proud.
Anyways in other news, I’m sure I’m going to get a few comments saying “It’s just a Proof of Purchase with a net on it… And that’s a fair comment seeing as both helmets are basically the same thing. See the Proof of Purchase was based off of a common WW1 helmet… And my helmet is a WW2 Australian Army helmet that was basically the same helmet as they didn’t change the design of their helmet much from the first world war to the second. But to be fair I did a bunch of stuff that makes this helmet different from the Proof of Purchase. It’s got jiggle boned straps and Paintablity and yes the obvious netting. … Also it has a Kangaroo painted on it which makes it cooler in my book :P
