LAST CONFIRMED WORKING FALL 2019
I might get back to this if I return to Space Engineers, but I haven't really played in a long time... and the new oxygen gain mechanics make this mod kinda redundant since there is nothing to gain by opening your visor.

Never again will you forget to toggle your visor or waste that precious suit oxygen!

This will automatically open your helmet visor when in high oxygen environments, and automatically close your helmet when you leave them. This works both on planets with oxygen atmosphere AND pressurized grids.

It can also be toggled on and off by each user individually if you want to put it on your server. (also works offline and singleplayer)

Chat Commands:
  • "/hat help" Displays help info, relaying how to toggle settings and the current activation status of the mod for you.
  • "/hat off" Turns off the mod.
  • "/hat on" Turns on the mod. (It is on by default)
  • "/hat overridetime [seconds]" Sets the override delay. (10 by default)
  • "/hat debug" Lists debug commands.

Note: If you suddenly decompress an airlock you MIGHT take up to 7% health damage to suffocation, because there is no way to predict depressurization. This isn't me, it happens because game code runs before mod code.

How To: Manual Override Mode
Pressing your keybind for toggling the visor will trigger a manual override mode that disables the automatic switching, leaving you in complete control of your visor. After a set amount of time (10 seconds by default) the visor will switch back to automatic mode.

If you encounter a bug, please enable verbose logging ("/hat verboselog") and send the log file to sgcam8@gmail.com so that I can fix it!

Do NOT use this mod with any npc mods! it nearly crashed my game. Otherwise this is a great mod.

It basically has to trigger for every npc in the world, causing massive amounts of lag.

Mod seems irrelevant these days considering you automatically absorb oxygen passively if it's in the environment. No reason to ever take off the helmet now anyway since you won't burn through your suit supply in a pressurized area anymore.

welp... it used to work, but has been a while since i last used it, but it now no longer closes the helmet when in vacuum... hope you are doing good, and can find the time to see if a fix is possible, because knowing Keen, they probably borked it hard

@SamDark Thanks for the bug report - I misplaced that line after some refactoring...oops. Also, the goal was to make the mod not be too intensive, though i suppose its not that big anyways.

@Dawg The time setting you can control sets the duration of the override, not the helmet speed.
