Starfleet Type 6 Shuttlecraft

Description
Here is a Starfleet Type 6 Shuttlecraft, fully functional, and as visually close to the actual Star Trek Shuttle with NO mods required. It is relatively manuverable but has no weapons, just like the ones in the Star Trek shows and movies. Comments are welcome.

Features; - 2 Fighter Cockpits, Shuttlecraft can be controlled through either one
- 6 Gyroscopes
- 10 Large and 4 Small Atmospheric Thrusters
- 12 Large and 6 Small Ion Thrusters
- 2 Large Hydrogen Thrusters with 2 Hydrogen Tanks for escaping planetary gravity
- 2 Small Cargo Containers
- Oxygen Generator and Connector, with conveyor tubes connecting cockpit and components
- Left side cockpit setup with Landing Gear on/off lock, Ion, Atmospheric and Hydrogen thrusters
on/off buttons, as well as buttons to control Hydrogen Tank stockpiling, Oxygen Generator on/off
and Air Vent pressurize/depressurize control, useful for not using oxygen in Earth atmospheric flight

The Type 6 Shuttlecraft can be seen in Star Trek; The Next Generation, Star Trek; Voyager and one episode of Star Trek; Deep Space Nine. In my research, I found that the Galileo Shuttlecraft movie prop from the Star Trek 5 movie had been rebuilt to be used as the Type 6 Shuttlecraft found in the TNG TV show series, as the original TNG Shuttle was too tiny and problematic.

I've always wanted to fly one in a simulation, and this is as close as I can make it with no mods. The two hydrogen tanks only last for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in survival mode, just barely enough to fly high enough to make the ion thrusters work. Make the best use of the boost or you will fall back into the atmosphere. But I have made it to the moon in this ship and refueled it there in survival, so it can be done. Remember to take enough Uranium for the reactors and have enough oxygen available. Extra oxygen and hydrogen bottles always help.

With stock sim speed of 100 meters per second - m/s - (223.694 MPH), you can still get into space, but faster planetary escape can be had with the speed mod link at the bottom of this description page. Be warned, faster speed up also means faster speed down! That speed mod increases speed by a factor of ten! 1000 m/s is 2236.94 MPH!! It is very easy to go too fast and not be able to stop in time before planetary impact! This is where the stock sim speed is nice to have... it limits your decent speed when going to a planet. Do to all thrusters and components required for proper shuttlecraft function, the shuttlecraft has a sizeable mass and takes awhile to decelerate. I use the speed mod with no other mods, and so far it has worked perfectly.

This ship went through ten rebuilds to get all the components and shapes right. It is quite difficult to get the shape you want to be as fully functional as you need them to be in survival. On one prototype, I only had a single hydrogen thruster and that wasn't enough to get it into orbit. So I had to completely gut the ship and start over with only the shell. Space Engineers can be a real challenge! This design works well in both creative and survival modes.
Hope you enjoy.

Some extra info; Earth's gravity extends to 42 KM above the planet's surface.
The atmospheric thrusters only work to about 5 KM above the planet's surface.
The ion thrusters start working between 10 and 15 KM but work best above 20 KM.
You will need to use your hydrogen thrusters between 5km and 20 km,
but keep your ion thrusters on so they can assist with boosting the vertical ascent.

A great mod if you like flying fast (but it takes forever to slow down)

honestly this looks more like the shuttle from discovery due to the way space engineers builds tend to look. thats not a bad thing either!

Yeah Csteele2000, feel free to mod it, just if you upload it, give credit to the original creator (me), that is all I ask. Put in a link to here so people know where it originally came from. I took a look at your uploads page. Pretty cool, you're a fellow trekkie. Perhaps we could play mulitplayer sometime, in creative and just have fun building stuff.

Thanks Csteele2000.... I made this shuttlecraft not only to be a great stand alone fully functional ship, but also to compliment the very large but functional Enterprise D ship that I am working on, soon to be completed. Once it is completed, this shuttlecraft will go hand in hand with the larger Enterprise D and have a fully functional shuttle bay tailor made to fit two of these shuttles inside it.
