One correction: This still exists in a garage, but after a test run, they scrapped the idea because the Czech trains were cheaper to just buy than producing more of these.

Another DMU that I initially dismissed as a novelty; good looking, but too niche to really be useful. Then I tried one out on an urban shuttle line, linking two passenger stations, and I was stunned. They're not fast, but 60 kph is good enough for short distances, and a 25 passenger capacity is small, but still useful. What really blew me away though was their acceleration, able to go from standing to full speed within a couple seconds. I've seen electric engines that couldn't accelerate like that! These little beauties are perfect for urban shuttles and metro lines, a great light rail vehicle. Though, like their British cousin the Pacer, keep them off the main line.

This is a pretty nice train. So be it as it is litterly a street bus put on rails it costs a silly amount. Roughly 3 times as much as a bus with the same stats. And as this is litterly a street bus put on rails it seems a bit too costly to buy and run :P

That bus was an experiment by the Hungarian State Railway to decrease running costs of low traffic rural railway lines. It was a standard city bus fitted with railway wheels (so it could not run on the streets) and strutted steering mechanism. It proved to be a horrible failure, since it was a single ended car (thus needing turntables at the end of the line), also the wheel base turned out to be unfavourable for a rail car (thus making the ride rather unconfortable). The bus was converted back to street operation and run for a couple of years in rural Hungary. According to Wikipedia, it is still running (as a street bus) in Szeged in Southern Hungary. During its rail years, it only ran a few test services and did not get into regular revenue traffic.
