Rjufa Crater - Thors' Legacy

Description
Rjufa Crater - Thors' Legacy

Entirely fictional but heck, it could be real.

Preface

"You will pay for this Loki, on my word!" cried Thor and with that Thor raised his hammer and struck. The ground was mortally wounded, the earth violently razed and even the walls of Asgard suffered the more for it, or so the local legend would have us believe. The giant Skrymir shrugged. Freyr smiled. Odin chuckled, "boys will be boys".

From the backstory (see discussions for full story):-

"I could now prove the contradiction of limestone mountains being a result of a volcano. This place never grew up and eroded from the top, it was bulldozed up and out from beneath." (Dr. Bernard Joburg).

*********************************

And here you are, millenia later, enjoying the fruits of Nordic temperament or indeed, astronomical aggravation.

Now. Down to business. I present a map made purely for the OCD in you. Or the engineer. Perhaps the logistician. Heck, you might even be a Bob the Builder type. Regardless, I think you'll enjoy this map because it can be played large or small, easy or hard, complex or simple - all dependent on how you wish to play it.

It's a fixed city (only 12 of them), fixed industry map and it's been designed by hand by an experienced player who knows what will work and what will not. You can frolic on the southern plains and amass a simple fortune or engineer solutions in the rugged north to extract the hardest of the resources. You can value add to the north and haul southward, or haul the primary resources to the south and do it there. Enjoy multiple mountain passes and climbs, or exploit the water passages with a shipping empire. Mix and match - play it how you like.

You can expect huge completely flat areas for those complex freight hubs and you'll find almost all cities allow for easy connection and expansion. This map is by players for players and I doubt a more comprehensive play map exists.

It's as big as they come. 587 square kilometres, 29km x 20km. (7k x 5k). I've written a lengthy backstory for the map (see discussions) - in fact I create all my maps around the backstory - so for anyone seeking the geographical explanation, perhaps even the place naming, that's where I'd go.

Lastly, I'm certainly no geologist, cosmologist or mythologist, so keep in mind the conflagration depicted in this map, composed of Norse lore, geology, cosmology and the myriad of "facts" presented is and will always be a total nonsense. After all, it's just a map :)

** IMPORTANT STUFF - TECHNICAL NOTES

- This is an experimental size map. This *must* be set to true to play this map.
- Due to the nature and structure of the map, connecting roads *must* be turned off.

See TECHNICAL ISSUES in discussions.

@aantono - This error means connected streets is on and the map cannot provide proper links.

Go to <your Steam folder>steamapps>common>Transport Fever>res>config
Edit the file "base_config.lua" and change this line to ensure it reads false

makeInitialStreets = false

(This is straight from the thread "Technical Issues".)

And by the way: Your map is by far my favorite. Thanks ones again.

Well, I thought it might be handy to know for one or the other. I just changed the map.lua to play without industries for the beginning, and place them myself during the ingame years. It´s quite nice with the new industries mod.

Unless TF have made changes I don't know about, you can't and never have been able to delete industries you start with.

Hello Silky Rough,

I just tried to delete one industry for I was curious. It does not work. You can not delete any of the placed industries. I guess if you want to do so, you have to start a new game with a changed map.lua.
If anyone place any industry him- herself in the game, it is possible to delete.

What a great map, thank you so much. I'll try to get a passenger network going first.

Do you have, well, a map of the map? The lack of an overview is a serious shortcoming in TpF

@ClanMcAlister - you need to change to experimental. See "TECHNICAL ISSUES" thread above.

Sadly, starting a game with this map yields only an error message: "heightmap too large"
