Oxide Blaze

After the raging succes that the Desert Eagle Oxide Blaze turned out to be I immediatly started receiving messages and requests to make a UMP-45 Oxide Blaze variant. The UMP-45 and Desert Eagle are the only guns in the game that feature the original Blaze texture so publishing an Oxide Blaze UMP-45 to the workshop seems like a super logical step. As I already pointed out with the original Desert Eagle Oxide Blaze, yes this design is indeed inspired by the UMP-45 Blaze but in my opinion this version makes it no way similair to this skin in terms of art style.

Work Progress

Before starting I already knew that a UMP-45 variant would be harder to make than the Desert Eagle due to the UMP-45 having a much bigger framework. The first thing I promised myself was not to make the design feel cluttered. The Desert Eagle Oxide Blaze white flame had a big contrast with the rusted main coat but besides that there was not a lot of screaming drawings added. I did the exact same with the UMP-45. I really felt like this skin had to be on the level of it predecessor. I heard from a lot of people that they loved my Deagle so the UMP-45 had to be on the same level.

First I started with the regular rusted base coat. I first only did the main body, the grip and buttstock would come at a later stage because I was not quite sure what I wanted to achieve with those parts yet. After I finished the base coat I started on the flames and that actually took me quite some time to get right. The issue I had with the UMP-45 is the geometry revolving around the middle of the main body. Because it is slightly extruded everything that would go over it would look out of shape when viewed in First-Person. I see the default position as the most important view of a gun and therefore decided to alter my flames in such a manner that I wouldn't deal with this issue. First I tried moving some flames upwards but that felt too crammed, then I moved them a bit lower and was sorta satisfied with the results.

Keyword here is sorta, after asking for feedback to some friends they weren't quite sure but it just didn't look right. I agreed with them and so after a good round of feedback decided to remove the extending flames completely and was still left unsatisfied. There was something about it that I couldn't quite place so I went to bed to rethink what I was going to do. The next day I got back to drawing and finally landed on something that I felt was right. I fixed some irritating first person issues on the top of the UMP and started on the grip and buttstock. The back definitly needed something that would contrast with the rust. A lot of workshop submissions treat the little circular thing on top of the buttstock as a cushion of some sort and I treated this no different. To stay true to the deagle style I went with a leather material that was similair to the grip of the Desert Eagle and made sure that it blended in right with the geometry. For the grip I went with a rusted undercoat and a soft mousemat material like grip patch. After I was done I started with the wear.

The Wear

Obviously the wear is something I truly care about. I always try to make sure there are possibilities for price differences within certain conditions. For the UMP-45 Oxide Blaze in Factory New the key difference between a low float and a high float is at the front near the sight and just above the mag release handle. At minimal wear the sight will play an important role. A minimal wear variant will still have a somewhat painted sight at a low float but once you get close to field tested scratches really become noticeable on the white surface. The maximum float value is set at 0.55.

Last Words

I sincerely hope that I have met the high expectations for the UMP-45 Oxide Blaze. It is a gun skin that was anticipated by the community and the last thing I want to do is to dissapoint the community by not meeting their expectations. Every form of criticism is taken to heart and I therefore would love it if you could leave constructive criticism in the comment section or start a discussion. I am very outspoken about my design choices and I hope that I have been able to show you a look inside my mind while I created this finish.

I really really hope you enjoy this submission!
