Introduction to Pets
Pets are various creatures that players can acquire in the game.
There are 3 different Pet Types

They help Heroes by attacking enemies and provide extra stats. Only one pet can be equipped per Hero at once.

Pets are hatched from Eggs that can be dropped from enemies and loot chests.
To hatch an egg, talk to the Hatchery and drag an egg into the slot and Incubate it.

Eggs take 1 second to hatch and any eggs that are not incubated spoil after 48 hours to become pet ingredient that helps in evolution. Non-standard eggs, never spoil.

Pets can become stronger by levelling them up in two ways:
  • Power - Feeding your pet, Pet Food which can be bought from the Petrinarian or looted from enemies as Pet Food Box.
  • Affection - Your pet gains affection in battle alongside your Hero. Affection is gained by being present when defeating a wave.

A pet will start off as a Hatchling but can be evolved by using Pet Consumables as Veteran and later on as Elder which increases their base stats and gives them Pet Abilities.

Your pet will gain 1 affection per 6 battle waves till you evolve it to Veteran, after that it takes 12 battle waves to gain 1 affection.
Pet Types
There are 3 different types of pets at moment in the game which comes out from Creeper, Gato and Dragon Eggs accordingly.
  • Creeper Pets
  • Gato Pets
  • Dragon Pets

Except those basic pets we also have 7 Premium ones that comes out by place a normal Gato or Creeper egg to Hatchery and transform with gems.

Beyond Basic and Premium Pets we also can find some Special Eggs at Treasure Pirate that you can buy with medals and aquire those Special Pets

Below you can see into the blue circle all 3 stages of Betsy as she evolves and from top clockwise: Bearkira, Tainted Sword, Blighted Dragon, Terror Dragolich, Narwagon and last but not least Thunder-O

For historic reasons i ll place the Grumpy Pet as well even though you cannot acquire it anymore.
Also every pet you see above in previous alpha there was a way to get the exact same pets in Goldish color but not anymore
Pet Consumables
Pet Food will increase the power of your pet till it reached the cap.

  • Quality (1500 XP)
  • Premium (5,000 XP)
  • Exquisite (12,500 XP)

Q&A
Q: Why to use a legendary pet instead of any other lower tier one?
A: Legendary pets have only one difference at moment among other pets and that's the range of stats you get when you reroll them. A legendary pet tends to get closer to max numbers on those stats with fewer rerolls.

Q: What pet is the best in the game?
A: There is not a simple answer on that. But i can explain few things. All Pet Abilities are good to use for its own purpose each one. Examples of few i personally use:
  • x% Hero Damage Dealing are good to use them with a hero dmg build Hero.
  • Shield Abilities are good to use them against bosses and they take back most of dmg they do
  • Sparke Party Ability is among the most chosen ones cause you can stun assasins when they attach on you at chaos 5 and above.
  • Ghost Wail Ability from Special Pet Dragolich is among the most used ones in the game as well cause the enemies recieve 100% more dmg from all the party that is in the game and shot the same enemy.

Q: how do i get Vials
A: You open those boxes that you get from loot chests and bosses that called Creepy Reagent Box, Reagent Box with Whiskers and Scaly Reagent Box . Look at the Pet Consumables section to see how they look like.

Hi.

Nice guide. Pets are pretty weak in dd2 compared to dd1. It's more about the appearance.

Appreciate the write-up, especially the abilities are well presented.

Two things that could be added in the section "Power/Affection":
Raising Power increased "Pet Stats", but does not change the attack speed.
Raising Affection increased the "Empowered Stats"

Maybe in the section "Pet Reroll Items" add: It is currently not possible to re-roll the elemental damage type a pet does.

In the section "number of vials per evolve" add: Some Pets take different amounts of vials. For example Serpentagon Fledgling -> Veteran takes 5 big vials, and Narwhagon Veteran -> Elder takes 5 big vials.

I see, well thank you anyhow. I hear there's a pet rework (another) coming this year, just a heads up. Maybe that'll get you interested again in the future!

Hey can you add some info on like, the Ancient eggs & their pets? There's a dragon that can get Gato abilities when you reroll it, the egg doesn't spoil.
