Black Desert Rose

An old Bhulan folktale tells of a black desert rose that blooms only once every five hundred years. According to the tale, an immense burst of energy from the heavens was focused upon one spot of the great Expanse and deep beneath the dunes on the surface a seed began to grow. The only person ever to witness the flower's bloom firsthand was a Bhulan traveler who described a flower so grand it touched the clouds and had petals blacker than the night sky.
