Agreed!

Ok, if the problem is reproducible, it's not a break from the computer but rather the game software calculating overload because there are many deviations of the laser beam. But one second seem to me too long !
Another unsolved mystery !

@PhilFromFrance - No, it wasn't lag I was seeing, the delay was repeatable and there was none before or after the laser beam delay. I don't have a monster gaming rig by any means but it's fairly fast with an Intel I7 CPU, 16 Gigs of on board memory and an nVidia 670 graphics card along with two SSD's and a one TB data drive. I seldom get any lag unless I've been playing Portal for an extended period of time. (I think Steam's software has a memory leak somewhere.)

@Chazz the Elder may have something with his "number of objects in the laser path" idea, if I don't use all the laser cubes behind the grates in the beam's path the delay doesn't happen.

PhilFromFrance - I see the same delay that dven1 was reporting. No idea why, first time I've seen that in any Portal puzzle. Number of objects on tehlaser path, perhaps? Also, I know the first two rooms were meant to be done by timing, but I ended up just crouching through the two of them.

Yes, I see that the last cube does not direct the beam immediately. I think the image was frozen for a moment (framerate = 0) on your computer and you have not seen since you were still. This often happens when the computer is doing something other than the game.

Just for the hell of it I took two screenshots from the same position about one second apart. In the first the beam ends at a laser cube but doesn't emerge. In the next one a second later the beam finally emerges from the cube and hits the catcher. I never moved between shots.

The best way to see these is to hover over the url, right-click and then click on "Open link in new tab". If you do that for both of the url's you can then switch back and forth between the two pics.

Can you see what I'm talking about?

OK, at the very end after activating all the laser relays you have to position the last laser cube to activate the laser catcher in the little alcove. As you place the cube in the beam, nothing comes out of it at first! I dropped it so it was still in the source beam and pointing at the catcher and shortly thereafter the laser beam emerged from the cube and activated the catcher. I've read that it takes a photon a million years to get from the center of the sun to the surface but I don't think this is the same thing. Has to be some sort of glitch.

@dven1 what do you mean by delayed ?
dven1 13 Jun, 2017 @ 5:05am
I still want to know why the laser beam emitted from the laser cubes is delayed when you put the cube in the beam. It's downright spooky!
