Deneban Valley

Voyage of the Deneban Barge
10 items
Description
Alien monuments litter the empty canyon, hiding strange treasures. No one is here, of course, but you can't help feeling as if you're being watched...

Deneban Valley features the Statue of the Teacher, a magical Reflecting Pool, an archaeological dig, a treacherous oubliette, a lucrative diamond mine, a rusty hanging bridge, an ancient Crashed Deneban Barge, vast deserts, and subterranean caverns to explore.

I started by trying to make a fun, challenging course with multiple levels to use your Savage Hook to swing through. I decided to model it after the colorful, canyon walls and mesas of the New Mexican desert, unique shapes carved by wind erosion. Designing around these neat shapes made a lot of cool plateaus and platforms to swing on. Then I decided to add a bit of history and some cool things to find.

Haha it's definitely more work though, my next few maps will probably be a bit less gargantuan ;P

No problem, I have to agree the grapple skill to travel across the island quickly is challanging and your resoning is very understandable. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely wanted the island to feel big, like a desert more than a desert island. This works into my design goals in a couple of ways. I think it makes the Hook stunts more necessary to get around, (and more fun, with more room to play) and it seperates the design features so that you can't easily find one from another -- I want people to have to poke around a little and explore various nooks and crannies to find stuff, so that when they feel like a reward when you find them. Thanks for checking it out! ^-^

I like the amount of detail in your island and its really enjoyable to swing around. However one thing i do feel thats a little off is just the size of the island, I fell the island itself could of been 2/3 or even half the size of what it is at the moment and still work really well. Its a very nice island overall

I truly enjoy an island more when the hunt for loot (which is essentially what players are coming to your island for) turns into a way to tell the island's story. I think more creators need to have this level of creativity. I like your use of the broken light to make the stones look like ore (or perhaps diamond). Your "mirror-oasis" and the archeological site are very well done. Keep up the good content!

Found it, thanks! Imho, this island is a remarkable artistic accomplishment.

Thanks! No photoshop - you'll find the oasis at the far end of the valley. I really liked the idea of a little watery oasis in the desert. But like anything in the desert, it may turn out to be a mirage... ;)

Baffled by the first images! Looks like water (assuming this is not photoshopped :-) alas, I could not find the view or any palms. Many interesting things packed into one island - Like.
