Citybus NewGen

The 'NewGen' Citybus was designed by H&S Coaches, a Fusion of Hess, a swiss bus builder, and Stadler Rail, a swiss train manufacturer. This bus is made of carbon fibre and aluminium - because of that, it is very lightweight. The Citybus has a powerful electric drive which allows it to reach 62 mph / 100 km/h. It is an automatically driven bus controlled by a datacenter, the energy supply is provided by inductive loops in the street's pavement.
On the inside, there is a big multi purpose area with 2 entrances and wheelchair ramps for all kind of passengers. Additional feature is the panorama-view glass roof which allows the passengers to catch a view of the cityscape.

In 2017, the city council of Schaffhausen (Switzerland) decided to buy a complete new fleet of electric busses[www.stadt-schaffhausen.ch] for the "Verkehrsbetriebe Schaffhausen". During the following years, a first generation of electric busses with an overhead loading system was bought. In 2029 it was decided to buy another generation of busses. This should provide enough busses to enlarge the bus lines in more adjacent villages. Excperiences with the first generation of electric busses showed some problems with the overhead loading system. The loading time at the bus stops isn't long enough.
Due to this problem, the second generation of electric busses uses a loading system with inductive loading.
There are some other specified requirements:

• barrier-free access
  
• big multi-use area for wheelchairs, prams and bicycles
  
• comfortable seats with great leg-freedom
  
• emission-free electric drive
  
• autonomous control with monitoring by the traffic control center
  
• comprehensive information systems for passengers in and around the vehicle

The NewGen busses fulfill all these requirements and the city council considers to buy more NewGen busses.

H&S Coaches (founded in 2025) is a consortium of two well-known vehicle manufacturers from Switzerland

1882 the Hess AG[www.hess-ag.ch] was founded in Bellach. HESS produces various busses, mostly for Switzerland.
Stadler Rail AG[www.stadlerrail.com] was founded in 1942 and offers various (cutom-made) rail vehicles. Stadler has a lot of experience with light-weight aluminium carriages.
