Matron Class Mothership

The Matron was designed to fit quartermaster command's requirements for a new colony transport vessel. Conceptually, Matron Class Motherships carry all the materials, and equipment necessary to give its 160 colonist crew an ample start on whatever planet or asteroid they find themselves on. With one massive production bay, the Matron can be loaded with ore at launch and refine much of it in transit. Meanwhile the ship's crew can automate the assembler banks to produce required components. Sporting an experimental high efficiency gravity drive, the Matron can conserve its large supply of hydrogen fuel for planetary landings and colonist bases. The gravity drive also allows for speedy retreats when space pirates or enemy factions are near. However, Matrons are not defenseless. They are loaded with 8 Gatling turrets, which can be computer linked and controlled or individually manned by the crew. This mothership also carries 2 pressurized fighter craft hangars, capable of holding 3 small craft each and 2 landing pads for larger fighter craft.
Finally, with hopes for peace in the vast confines of space the designers of the Matron included many multipurpose rooms to function as neutral ground for opposing factions to discuss trading, treaties and peace accords.
