Gamma class Cruiser

After experience with the Sol class Battlecruisers was analyzed, the realization was that they were failures, however due to the need of ships they were kept. A new fleet initiative, started after the Second attack on Earth, made long range strike capability a goal, with the new Mk. 1 Laser turrets being incorperated due to their lack of extra gear needed, such as conveyers. The new cruiser, codenamed "Gamma", was prototyped fairly quickly -within 3 months of the initial requirement- and was met with only one critisism: Useage of light armor in a cruiser class of ship. However the trade off was soon seen to be worth the extra speed, and over 8000 km jump range. The Gamma class entered service, and quickly replaced both the Sol class, and any remaining B class Cruisers that were already beyond their useful service life. The Gamma's, along side the Invincible class Frigates, became the backbone of Earth's defense and expansion, being more reliable, powerful, and all around better than any contemporary Pirate ship. Gamma's were still in service well into the 23rd Century, simpl because of their versatility. These last models were used as troop transports and colony ships, ferrying thousands of people that, unless told, would have assumed that these ships were simply reliable cargo vessels.
